Apple has been using the logo way longer than that. Check out this screenshot of MacOS 10.0, from 2001 (notice the "Applications" icon):

The recent change is a natural evolution of that design. There's no way they should win.

EDIT: And yes, that is Internet Explorer.

Damn! I wonder if Apple lawyers actually know this. You should write into them.

Though I too would like the old logo back.

They're not suing over the old Apple icon, which looked quite different from the Kon logo.

They're suing over the new app icon, which is quite similar to the Kon logo.

Evolution of infringement doesn't matter, except possibly as proof there was no deliberate intent to infringe.

I wanna be Anarchy

the Chinese equivalent of Wikipedia, says the KON brand was inspired by music like the Sex Pistols, with the logo meant to represent three skeleton bones symbolizing power over death

It is not the sex pistols they copied but the Anarchy logo, which in turn probably took its inspiration from the peace sign. Good luck. No where else but China would they have a chance.

Definite signs of xenophobia in the people making these blanket claims about Chinese companies.

Don't be so quick to judge others, especially when you haven't even met them. I'm an intellectual property lawyer, although I specialize in patent litigation. I've represented companies based in Japan and South Korea. I've traveled to Japan many times, and I admire their culture. The South Koreans and Japanese I've met are hard-working and dedicated. I have nothing against the people of China. I do have a problem with lax enforcement of intellectual property rights or when it's one-way.

Lots of people on here have been making sweeping generalisations about Chinese companies. It doesn't matter if hundreds of companies have been guilty of IP theft, it doesn't mean a company like Kon aren't entitled to sue an alleged breach of their logo. These people seem to imply that they are not. Talk about tarring everyone with the same brush.

I thought you could only successfully sue a company when the trademark is infringed upon in the same market as the original trademark?
Depends on lots of factors...
& plus Chinese courts allow for copying of logos, unlike other places.
But the logos may be different enough to be allowed...
Then the courts could say Apple can't use it China, or with new products after a certain date, or Apple could lease the trademark, or whatever...

I was living in China from 2009 to 2012, now I travel there regularly but live in Austria.

I remember a co-worker picking me up in some car that looked like a BMW X5 but was the worst kind of rip-off I've ever seen (Shanghuang CEO). I was laughing my ass off all night.

They are just bloody awful lol
The thing that killed me was that you could buy the Range Rover lettering from the Land Wind dealer.

Nice bit of 'free' advertising for Kon...Considering Apple had that logo shape way back, its a bit rich of them to suggest Apple has stolen their latest design. Damn even their website takes a leave from the Apple design book.

I'd be surprised though if Chinese courts recognise that though...I'm not holding my breath...

Hope they change it. I actually hate most of Apples new graphics. Ugly. I don't mind simplistic when elegant. But their designs have gotten more and more hideous.
