Hello

I have a Mac Pro 2019 (Catalina) and Apple Superdrive, and they work fine together.

However, the Superdrive has a very short cable, and I need it to sit about 4 feet from the computer. In various places (here, for example: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/external-dvd-drive.1967055/) I see folks saying the Superdrive cannot be used with a cable extension. Is that correct?!?...

If it's not correct, can anyone recommend a cable that will work? The Superdrive cable is USB-A.

Since the Superdrive works OK I don't really want to ditch it, but it seems ludicrous not to be able to use an extension...

Thanks very much for any info/suggestions!

Option #1:

Try a USB3 extension cable to see if it in fact does or does not work:

Option #2:

If option #1 doesn't work, buy a 3rd-party (non-Apple-labeled) USB DVD/CD drive and use that instead.

Thanks Fishrrman, appreciated. 😀

All the drives I see on Amazon likewise have 30cm cables, but I assume they're not allergic to an extension cables. Though some don't seem to write above 4x.... hmm.

Just realiseed I still have Apple Care on the Mac Pro, so will call Apple tomorrow and ask the original question to them direct.
