Hello,

Always something, I guess:

When I bought my iMac a few months ago, I also bought
their DVD reader, called a Superdrive.

Used it once or twice, a few months ago, and then it has just bee
sitting on my desk.

Can't get it to show up anywhere on any screens, or to work.
Have it plugged directly into a USB Port on back of iMac, so a USB cable isn't in play.

I did get a disc into it, but I don't think it grabbed it.
I think it is just in it due to my pushing it in.

Previously, I think, if you put your hand on the case, you
could discern a very light vibration. Not now.

In the Finder, "Remote Disc" nothing shows.
Does not show on the desktop or Dock either.

Tried the Apple DVD Player program that came with Mac.
It also won't do anything.

Any thoughts on how to get the Mac to actually
recognize the SuperDrive, and/or what to try would be appreciated.

Sure is hard to believe it is a bum unit after only
one or two usages, which went fine.

Thanks,
Bob

Hi,

Thanks for help.
It does have that checked, as you suggested.

Is there a mechanical or other way of ejecting CD that I put in and can't get out now ?

Again, it seems like the motor is not spinning, and/or no USB connection to printer.
Have tried most everything I can think of; other cables, other Ports, etc.

A real pain to find an Apple store to bring it in. Any way of my opening it up ?
BTW: What's the warr. on these things ?

Thanks again for help,
Bob

IF it's still under warranty, take it back to a brick-n-mortar Apple Store and let them look at it.
They may just hand you a new one.

Is there a tiny pin-hole to the right of the slot? If so, straighten a paperclip and push it into said hole - it should force eject disk.
