The **** Apple will use their sapphire chemical aberration over Corning if it’s more scratch resistant. They’ll go with whatever is cheapest as long as it’s “good enough”

I love Apple, but they are NOT premium anymore.
Must be great to be a 2-percenter, but us 4-percenters are still trying to stretch a dollar.

Sapphire glass is really expensive, as well as having other issues outlined above. Sufficiently expensive that it would likely more than double the cost of the phone. Even Apple customers have a limit to how much they’ll pay.
Uhm, no.
Cost of synthetic sapphire is quite modest. There are other aspects that has been mentioned that makes it less than ideal. It is pretty good as a camera lens protector, but as has been pointed out, you would prefer to have it thin, which exacerbates the brittleness issue, which in turn…it gets technical. But cost is not the real issue here.

Must be great to be a 4-percenter when us 6-percenters are just trying to make ends meet 😏 are we just adding 2 to each amount to see who the most poor is? That’s a fun game. Who wins? I can really tell a lot a person by some internet posts, I sure can, so I should be really really good at this 🤣

you missed the point. Apple stood for luxury and quality and high standards in the past. Now they stand for commodification and “just good enough” because they have WAY more customers and either have to do it because of amount of scale; or they’re trying to be a business and make more money by letting standards slip because it’s more lucrative, or both.

and that bothers me because there are no other good options out there for cell phones, and I have chosen Apple because of their historical attention to detail and focus on user experience; but with that sliding away, it’s bothersome.

you see? But let’s not talk about the one percenters. Oof those guys are TERRIBLE. them and their Pro Max phones with 512gb.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Stronger and more scratch resistant glass for camera is always welcome

Another lazy arricle by MacRumors where they just post what's given to them without doing any work on their own. After making a statement like this:

"Corning says that with Gorilla Glass DX+, camera lenses can capture 98 percent of light, an improvement over a camera lens that doesn't use the technology."

The obvious question is: "OK, what is the figure for other technologies??" How much of a percentage point improvement is it? Give us some damn context! MR didn't bother to find that out.

To be fair to MR, 99% of today's media dont give a damn either. So they aren't doing a particaullay bad job by the industry standard. It is just the norm. ( And yes which is why we have to scroll through comments to find answer we have )

$$$$$$$$$
^ that’s why
At first, I said "great idea". Then I thought of all the debris and crap that would then be caught and built up around the lens. Not to mention that the rim might block the camera on the fringes
Why can't they just make screens/lens covers made out of sapphire and be done with it instead of coming out with a "new and improved" version of glass each year?
Apple wanted to use Sapphire as the screen material but the company that claimed to be able to do it couldn’t actually make it happen. https://www.theverge.com/platform/a...le-iphone-sapphire-supplier-gt-advanced-fraud
