OLED is awesone,so much nicer than LCD.
but curved/wrapped display like recent Galaxies is just a gimmick and not useful at all beside looking nice.

Sign of the times. Jobs would've probably immediately cancelled display negotiations with Sharp.

Yeah, Apple is not in crisis. It's similar to that Samsung "crisis of design" quote. Neither "crisis" reference was intended to infer the fear or danger which most English readers immediately think of. Instead, they were used more to mean something that is an important decision or turning point.

You're thinking of the average iPhone buyer that will drop the new curved one and it'll smash, then drop the older replacement iPhones (and they'll smash also.)

Is Tim Cook's Apple really so different that they don't mind suppliers blabbing 10 months out, or does Tai Jeng-wu just not know of the historical wrath of Jobs?

Knowing how long it takes for Apple to bring products to market, and how Samsung tends to rush products into development: I wonder if Apple had been working on curved displays for years but never felt they were ready for production, whereas Samsung got wind of that and beat Apple to market.

I too don't see much value in a curved display (outside of an increased ability to break when dropped). But if the rumors are true, maybe Apple has found a compelling use for that design. I'm still having trouble believing that they're going back to an all glass phone, the most fragile product they ever made.

Unfortunately, Apple frequently opts for form over function.
