iPhone 8 has nothing to offer me over 7 and iPhone X has a notch. I will wait till next year.

That is not true. People don’t want notch in iPhone 10.
YOU don't want the notch. Normal people don't care?

Sooooo.

The fact that Apple clearly built up production further ahead of time than usual (note the abnormally low shipping times in the holiday season) didn't strike the question in any analysts mind of "Maybe the component orders are down because they ramped up production so much ahead of the holiday season that they don't NEED to keep production levels high to fill the usual backlog of shipments"? I have no evidence of this, but neither does any of the analysts so it holds just as much water.

I wish I could be an analyst, apparently all you have to do is say anything with a reference to "sources" and you collect a paycheck for contributing literally nothing to society.

The only thing I find it annoying in is games, otherwise I don't even notice it most of the time.

They're living the dream. :p

I got an 8, after my last iPhone slowed down mysteriously. It will be joining the second hand market pretty soon.

Looking forward to the articles soon about the iPhone "super cycle" coming in late 2018 when they replace the 8 and add those two new sizes in the X form factor. If the stock dips on poor iPhone 8 sales, buy low and sell after you ride the super cycle.

Apple should've just launched the X and be done with it. Demand would've been overwhelming but really there is nothing the iPhone 8 really does more that users have been really missing with the iPhone 7. Sure new CPU and Wireless Charging, and maybe new lens for the camera but nothing too tangible that the X couldn't deliver.

iPhone 7 sales still are high and support those that needed to upgrade from 6S or earlier at much cheaper price than the iPhone X. The iPhone X should've launched with 128/256GB options ... get rid of that 64GB - hopefully Apple will for the X 2018 models and save it for just the iphone 7 & SE phase models.

Going forward Apple should Kill:
iPhone 6/6S sales ... there is no point anymore.
iPhone 8 - Keep iPhone 7 for one more year or replace it entirely with the iPhone 8 this October.

Bring on iPhone X, X Plus and X SE models .... have the others as an online ship only or via authorized retailers and providers not in the Apple stores.

One factor in reports of 'poorer than expected sales' could be the huge range in Apple's current iPhone line-up, diluting sales for any individual model.
New iPhone purchasers have a wide selection to choose from, and with so many price-points, the newest or 'flag-ship' models may not be as attractive as they once were.

Apple currently sell 8 iPhones, all with between 2 and 5 colour options, and 2 capacities.
X - has 2 colour, 2 capacities
8 - 3 and 2
8+ - 3 and 2
7 - 5 and 2
7+ - 5 and 2
6s - 4 and 2
6s+ - 4 and 2
SE - 4 and 2

That's 8 different iPhones, in a mammoth 60 varieties (or SKUs). Extraordinary (for Apple) ... !!

Horrible for marketing and completely dumb for supply chain.

I've gotten new iphones just about every model since the first. I like my month old X, but a part of me does regret that I spent close to 1300$ for a phone. And I make pretty good money.

With the whole slowing intentionally thing, and not wanting to spend another grand on another phone, I'm pretty sure I'll skip 2018. Maybe even 2019. I'm actually getting sick of the fact that my cell phone takes up so much of my free time.

Hahaha, please don’t buy used car at $1000

My first car was a '92 honda civic hatchback that my parents got me back in 01 when I was in high school for $1500. I just got rid of it a year and half ago. That thing just ran and ran. I simply couldn't justify paying for newer car when it ran like a champ, that is until the bottom of the car started rusting out.

Weird. You mean, you release the 8 alongside the X, and say that the X is the future, and the X-style form factor will probably be the norm for all but the super low-end models next year, but probably at the price of the 8, and it's a surprise that the 8 isn't selling well. hmmm.

Actually from the most recent data that we have... an article from MR a week or so ago, they're saying that the 8 outsold the X.

Same thing with that...

You mean, you release the X as the premium phone this year, say the X is the future, and the X-style form factor will probably be the norm for all but the super low-end models next year, but probably at the price of the 8 now, and it's a surprise that the X isn't selling as well as expected. hmmm.

I budgeted $1350 (AUS/Australian) for the iPhone X, and it retails here for A$1,579, $200 well over my budget... I'll stick with my iPhone 7 and save my cash... that is why, it is simple... the iPhone X is simply too expensive!

With the products Apple have theirs no need to upgrade for me, but I will every 2 years iPhones, iPads and MacBook Pro every 3 years as there is a good second hand market to sell my gear to people who like Apple products but it's financially not possible for them to buy new.

Since the article goes on to say that it's the full line of new iPhones that are under selling, including the X, why does the headline just say iPhone 8?

I didn't upgrade from a 6 to an 8+ for the looks, I did it for the increases in speed storage, and in my particular case, the larger unit provided by the plus.

OK it isn't about the looks of the iPhone 8, 8+ or the X. In general Apple products demand premium dollars and as such the recipient expects a premium experience. If the iPhone 8 and 8+ are presented and marketed as substandard hardware to the iPhone X... People will want and buy the iPhone X. Why should anyone want to buy the iPhone 8/8+ especially since they do appear no different than the 7 and 6s and even the 6. There is no status there, there is no allure. If a customer is putting out $650+ for a new phone it isn't a huge step for most Apple product buyers to get to the $999 mark for the "latest and greatest" experience possible.

This applies to people that are going to buy a new phone regardless. The ones that want that leading edge experience. Not the person that says the iPhone X is $200 over my budget, so I won't buy. Not the person that says I just wanted feature (blank) so the 8, 8+ is "good enough." The 8 may have outsold the X initially but long term the iPhone 8 is sort of like Windows Me... it was there because it had to be (Apple couldn't make enough iPhone X to release that as the only phone in 2017.)
