Apple support for Calibrite Display Plus HL in macOS -- how and why to use it (WikiPost)

With macOS 26.4 and beyond, Apple supports full hardware calibration with the Calibrite Display Plus HL in the Pro Display Calibrator app. [Calibrite Display Pro HL is not supported.] Pro Display Calibrator only works with Apple displays that have a reference mode or "preset" (Pro Display XDR, Studio Display, Studio Display XDR, and MacBook Pro 14"/16"). See Use presets and reference modes with your Apple display. This is a big step forward. In the past, you could only do hardware calibration using Photo Research PR-740, PR-745, PR-788, or PR-1050, or Colorimetry Research CR-300, CR-250, or CR-100 hardware. It can now be done with the Calibrite Display Plus HL.

For reference, I own a Calibrite Display Plus HL colorimeter ("spectroradiometer") and a Studio Display XDR. Unfortunately, thanks to the timeline for M5 Mac Studio, I am still on a 16GB M1 Mac mini...

I also own a Kuycon G32P I can experiment with, but to be honest I'm looking to replace it with something a bit more macOS-friendly. I have a family member who wants my G32P and will make good use of it. So I'm in the market for a Retina 6K or a Retina 8K...
