I have been struggling with my new iPhone 12 from day one. I have now had it since March 10th. I called Apple Support and I am confused. I had an iPhone X before this phone. I like to use their feature "bedtime" as my alarm clock. It will go off at my designated awake time but makes no sounds. I noticed on a whim to turn of the feature do not disturb and it will now work if it is off. I didn't have to do this with my ipx.

The ladies and I ended up speaking to two different techs seriously confused me. The tech manager said that it was not supposed to go off and ring if I have do not disturb on. This is confusing to me as that is a setting you push to set the time. So she instructed me to update my ios which the update was just released and back up my phone and completely wipe it out and reset it.

I did everything but reset it because honestly is she correct? Are you not supposed to be able to use a feature like do not disturb when using your alarm? I want to know is she right before I jump through hoops and reset everything.

That's interesting. I have my DND set to from 10 pm to 7 am. and the Bedtime is at 6 am every day. For me it works fine, it bypasses the dnd and does make an alarm sound. And if I'm wearing my watch while going to bed for sleep tracking, if I forgot to unsilence the watch, I get haptic feedback on my wristing telling me to wake up.

My Bedtime alarm is set for 5am and my DND is set from 10pm to 6am. I wear my watch to sleep and have it automatically silenced at 8:30pm. I prefer waking up to haptic feedback. If I didn't wear my watch to bed, the phone alarm would go off as it should.

I ended up calling Apple today. I restored my phone to factory settings, OH what a long drawn out process. I hope that it fixed my bedtime alarm. I will have to see how it does in the morning.

I'm totally frustrated!!!! The alarms didn't work again this morning. This time both the bedtime and the regular alarm. I called Apple who told me I cannot get a replacement only schedule a repair. Tomorrow it will be a month that I got this. So I've decided to just use my ipad for the alarms.

The Apple store is not close to us. It's about a hour away.

What good is buying AppleCare anyway.

My son was messing with my phone and saw that I had bluetooth on. Even though no devices except my watch was connected. For 3 days now if I manually turn off bluetooth before bed my bedtime alarm works fine.

Have you actually verified this by going to the Settings app and then tapping on Bluetooth to see what devices are connected? Are there any Bluetooth audio devices that it could be connecting to, thus disabling the sound from your phone?

Oh, and to answer your question, Do Not Disturb does NOT have any effect on alarms. So the tech support people you spoke to were dead wrong about that (sounds like they need better trained people!).

I’m not sure what has changed over the last two years, but I have noticed a downward trend in Apple Support. About all they do now is tell you to erase and restore. If that doesn’t work, they RTA to Engineering, who just tells you to keep your iOS up to date. Then, if the issue isn’t resolved in about a month, they close the case and you’re right back at square one.

I do have two bluetooth devices but none are activated at night. So when I turn it off, everything is turned off and when I turn it back on my watch instantly activates. It is the only thing that makes sense. The techs wanted me to return it for a repair when it obviously is a software issue. Had me wipe the phone and restart. But turning this bluetooth off at night the alarm works like it should. My iphone 10 had both on at night the do not disturb and the bluetooth. I honestly got no help from the technicians. I would like not to have to worry about this every night but I have too unless someone has a better idea.

But just to be SURE - I'd advise actually going to Settings > Bluetooth BEFORE you turn Bluetooth off next time you go to bed to ensure that ONLY your Apple Watch is shown as "Connected" via Bluetooth. I can think of no logical reason why turning Blueooth off would matter for your issue unless it was connecting to some sort of audio device. You might also try one night leaving Blutooth ON but shutting your Apple Watch down, just to be sure something with the Watch isn't interfering with the wake-up alarm.
