Lets assume Apple releases a tablet, I think most of us here would agree the possibility is high. Many people assume that it is going to be built to compete with $299-$399 netbooks from DELL, HP, Asus, MSI, and Acer which makes it look way overpriced. However I think Apple is gearing up this tablet to compete with the next generation of low cost netbooks/notebooks like the Lenovo IdeaPad S12, Samsung N510, and the oncoming heap of CULV based netbooks. These netbooks/notebooks feature 11-12 inch screens, full size keyboards, 9400M with ION, and better processing power than Atom if CULV based. Prices for the ION netbooks are $550 for the Lenovo and $600 for the Samsung, this would place a $699-$799 Apple table in a competitive position considering you always pay more for Apple designed hardware. CULV based netbooks/notebooks should be around $500-$700 from the other big PC makers, Apple would not be in a bad spot if they can pull off a tablet that runs an OS that sits between the iPhone OS and full blown OS X and brings innovative features to the table.

Do you agree or do you think I have no clue what I am talking about?

Well I want do say first that I don't care for netbooks and find that they don't fit my needs personally. That said I do know a lot of people with netbooks in my area and the ONLY reason they bought them is because they were cheap. I live in a poor area and around here everyone owns netbooks because they can't afford anything else ( which is kinda sad but ow well ) and these people would rather have a full sized laptop but they can't afford it. If apple releases one for the prices you mention there is no way in hell anyone I know would buy one. I understand that it would be more powerful then other netbooks etc but I could never justify that price for a netbook when even if it is that powerful it would still be pretty limited. I know a lot of my friends who picked up netbooks for around 150-200 dollars from stores like sams club because they needed a computer and could not afford a desktop or laptop. So going from a 200 dollar netbook to a 800 dollar one is kinda of stupid I don't care how powerful it is for a netbook it is still limited to small task. For 800 dollars I can almost get a macbook which is fairly small and can do a LOT more.

To the poster above...if all these people are buying netbook because that can't affording a full size one, I suggest they all look again. Best Buy always has a low end laptop for a similar price of netbook(they have a 15'' for 280)...is it the best computer? No, but it beats the netbook when it comes to speed. Or buy used/refub....

Most of the netbook owners I know aren't financially handicapped. Instead, the Asus, Dell, HP or Lenovo is either a second or third computer.

I don't know many plumbers that only have one wrench, if you know what I mean.

Seems like a reasonable price for what it is, I am just trying to keep an open mind through all these rumours until I see the real thing. Whenever that may be.

I have seen, used, and seen other use netbooks.

Sure low cost is a huge draw, but do not overlook its light weight and small size.

YES, netbooks can be designed better (more rectangular so you have full width keyboard and screen), but it is a valid and attractive design.
