Apple is in triage mode over Siri!! Yes everyone knows how bad Siri is!! All AI LLM is far from perfect but so far I would rather deal with with any AI/LLM engine rather than Siri. I have an android phone with Google’s Gemini which is a far from perfect but I find myself using it 90% of the time over Siri. If my life depended on it I would avoid Siri at all costs. I would rather seek help from an alcoholic meth head with dementia rather than trust Siri. For heavens sakes she still can’t even dial a phone number or route me to the correct address with a greater than ~90% success rate.

Your ranting about Siri is misplaced. Siri was never based on an LLM design. It was a pre-trained ML-based system. Siri and Gemini are two very different things. Now, if you're referring to Siri in iOS 18.2 and macOS 15.2, then you need to understand that it *just came out* last week, and it will take time for Siri to natively be capable of the same stuff that Gemini can do. That's why it's now an Extension-based agent where additional extensions can be added. Gemini support is coming to Siri in the future. ChatGPT is the first extension to be supported. In the meantime, you can access Gemini on your iPhone. No need to buy an Android phone. But hey, you knew that.

Regarding Maps, that's also completely separate from LLM systems. You're mixing up worlds here. Apple Maps is stellar in many locations around the world, but very weak in others. Google had years of a head start, so it's only fair to give Apple Maps more time to catch up for less-populous areas, right? Are you actively submitting corrections into Apple Maps? That capability exists, and it obviously needs your feedback. Help them out to help yourself.

Your ranting sounds like how Apple users used to rant about Windows, but ironically Windows has learned and borrowed from Apple and those rants no longer really apply. How many times have we heard about Blue Screens of Death lately? Nowhere near what we used to hear about 20 years ago.

Siri of the old is not the same as Siri of the new. Give 'er time.

o please be realistic here! It's incredibly difficult for a demented alcoholic to maintain a reasonable meth addiction.

Like the flaming Radeon 500 and 700 in the Trashcan?
Refresh my memory, because i dont remember anyone reporting issues with them.

If anything, blame apple for using yet another non standard connector (to block us from being able to upgrade) and for the genius but badly implemented cooling core.

Trashcan had poor thermal design and some Radeons were defective.
Similar situation to the Macbook Pros with the Nvidia 8600GTs.
Why Apple sent Nvidia to jail and not AMD is odd.

Seems like it was apples fault, as i mentioned, not AMD.

And AMD is notorious for being a good partner to work with.

Ask sony, MS, apple (before this announcement), evga and many others about their wonderful experience with Ngreedia.

That looks like the Joy Division album cover for Unknown Pleasures.

Since Apple now produces its own GPUs there is no need for hell to freeze over. Do you even remember the reason Apple and Nvidia parted ways? It was over Nvidia wanting complete access to macOS’s core. Apple said no way.
I thought it was due to overheating and system crashes that led to class action lawsuits and extension of warranty on Macbooks on Apple's end.

Interesting. It appears that it is research applicable to Nvidia since they don’t mention apple silicon in the published paper - read it quickly

Recurrent Drafter (ReDrafter) can be used for any GPU/framework. In fact it was (obviously) designed for Apple Silicon first. Apple had to work with Nvidia to get running on Nvidia GPU’s and that’s what this article is referring to…

“we also validated its effectiveness for on-device applications by implementing the approach in MLX and benchmarking performance on Metal GPUs in Apple Silicon chips, achieving up to 2.3x speedup.”

The more folks working on and improving ReDrafter, the better. So, it makes sense that they’d want it applied in as many contexts as possible.

They partner with Nvidia... to include groundbreaking new technique...?? Everyday or so there are new optimizations and scientific papers published... You do not have to work with Nvidia to implement them... but in this case it's being added to Tensor-LLM, so software, and the Nvidia mention an "Apple benchmark" that shows 2.7x improvement... The rest of the post is explaining how this is influenced by many factors... So it is nice to see Apple contributing once in a while when other companies have researched and implemented hundreds of ways to improve AI in general.
They have almost no knowledge of AI, run a invisible cloud, local AI is not so local.. and the M socs are nowhere close to what even an average GPU or more specialized NPU...
For instance the GPU from the most expensive MacPro, 15000 euros... And a 4070 ti beats it by 100% in some benchmarks. Which aren't easy to do... it must be done using the same benchmark, and to be fair, not on highly optimized Apple only apps... For the CPU almost no number are available.
So now, they are trapped.. Especially with a big all in one piece SOC... That will not scale much more. So they'd need a completely new architecture, not their specialty really...

Apple do not make GPUS, they are in a soc, it's called an IGPU.. GPU are extremely complex, Apple has bought a company at some point to have a decent mobile GPU. They do not have the knowledge or the skills, nor the people to make anything close to Intel AMD or Nvidia, and it won't happen but one of the only other company with the know how is Microsoft, then maybe some Chinese company. And Nvidia drivers, numbers are not official, has more lines of code (not the best metric, but still a good indication) than MacOs... which in the latest versions has been removing support for numerous hardware standard and it's a platform where everything is to be bought from Apple... Biometrics, Magick thingy only, displays... Well without BetterDisplay you would need to buy one of their over overpriced screens.
They know the situation is not at their advantage, and Apple cannot operate when they have competition (in the 80s, until today... It's always been true), so they lock everything even more... And have no problem making 15 apps not removable... The app tray is half of their, useless for many, apps taking space. And they fight any decision about fair competition with ludicrous argumentation. It's sad, à while back they made a press release to complain about Spotify, "Apple made them" to summarize... Yeeeees Apple made Spotify, they weren't reluctant at all about a streaming service, because of Money, that is all they are after :/ the current Privacy narrative, and sorry, do not involve human rights when the manipulations and low level marketing are so obvious.

Euh about AMD is a good partner, and the particularly hypocritical names that is given to Nvidia, ngreedia... Let's call Apple, Applier for their proverbial honesty... Microsoft never had a bad relationship with Nvidia, not unrelated to Microsoft being a major actor in gaming forever, with Directx. AMD has been struggling very often, Microsoft designed the 360 GPU, and this design was refined for a long time, and they are probably cheaper.. This allowed AMD to build Socs, cpu and relatively powerful gpu...

What did Nvidia asked regarding MacOs? Companies writting drivers or security software or in fact for a lot of reasons, have access for decades to the Windows source code (and the driver sdk is just excelent)... Apple blocked access to their simple os, to get some of the Nvidia implementation details... No one needs Apple, except Google, to the contrary, Apple needs cloud infrastructures, GPT, etc. Or they need Samsung, so it's very funny to see they got a 2 years and a half old screen for the iPhone 16, fast charge is... 4 years late... but they have the intelligence... Not at all available for,2 years even on their devices.
Either they start acting like a honest company, or it isnunavoilable, the masquerade will not end well...

About: Your ranting sounds like how Apple users used to rant about Windows, but ironically Windows has learned and borrowed from Apple and those rants no longer really apply. How many times have we heard about Blue Screens of Death lately? Nowhere near what we used to hear about 20 years ago.

I do not see what Windows ever learned from Apple... They are not comparable.. Windows is not a unix clone so technically, there is nothing in common between NT and Nexstep, and before... Microsoft sold software, not the hardware, and they did what they have always done: develop software for all the major platforms... In the early 80s they were one of many companies... and they always have been facing merciless competition... they even want it, it's pushing them to always innovate and improve. Blue screens of deaths, are the vast majority of time, caused by a shi** driver, or an actual hardware failure, or Crowdstrike with complete access to kernel, that is going to change. So over the years, Vista was a huge evolution, gpu drivers, sound, part of the network stack, and many other things have been kicked out of the kernel, which also deeply changed in the following years. I run Canary builds... The screen is green not blue... Can't recall when I had one...

history is not fair with them, wondering why... The "they stoooole it aaall from us" that was just Jobs decompensating... Later the "Redmond start your photocopiers" is just the expression of a nevrotic brain, it was not possible to relate this to reality... Then the smartphones... Anyway. Today, there is no reason to compare the two companies, they have nothing in common...

How much yopur life depends on AI 😆? I would take relaxed aproach.
Oh, don't get me wrong. I personally don't care much about it at all! But it is Apple who made all of the noise about it being then next great thing and why we should all buy the iPhone 16, and it is Apple who are now failing to deliver. That is my point. I like to call out c**p when I see it. FWIW I don't have any AI activated on my iPhone and I never use the lamentable Siri. I do use ChatGPT on occasion for work and that's about it.
