Hmm, guess this could be interesting. I didnt realize the beastie boys had a compelling backstory.
Likely more “story” than “backstory”...
They’ve literally been famous for more years than they were alive, prior to being famous.
I’d imagine there are ample enough anecdotes from those 3 decades that they won’t feel pressured to show long boring shots of the parks they played in as kids or anything...

As an aside- I just remembered an interesting story I read about them some years back... (this kinda shows the change in maturity level as the years went on, too)

IIRC, they had some beef w/ the band Prodigy based on the fact that when they were playing some award gig with them or whatever- they approached them & asked them not to perform “Smack my b*t*h up”, but they did anyway.

Haha, that’s the kind of rando tidbits I’m thinking Spike can pull out of them! =)
Watch his “making of” on the Fatlip video. That was crazy. He pulled some stories from that guy that made me feel like I knew him (prior to watching that video I was completely unaware of him as an artist).

Edit:
Found the link.
Also... (trip down memory lane!), I remembered in ‘95 Spike did a Pharcyde video that he shot backwards... it featured the Beastie Boys seemingly riding bikes backwards amongst the band members along an NYC street!

I like the fact that the Beastie Boys were Vegan and Vegetarian. But as a person who wants to listen to clean and not sinful dirty Rap music cause I believe in God I was never a BIG fan. The very first album back in the 80's was fun to dance to and clean but somewhere along the way the music got dirty. The sugar hill gang of the 1970's was always tasteful clean RAP to me

Seriously? I'll skip what what people have already mentioned and just address Sugar Hill.. Two words, White Lines.

I saw them at the Brixton Academy in the 90's. Utterly amazing energy and so in sync with each other. Compared to this day and manufactured, auto-tuned music age, they are in a whole other league.

Legends.

“Fight for your right” all but condoned violence against your neighbors that didn’t want to listen to partying all night.
"Fight For Your Right" was meant to take the piss out of of all that terrible hair metal of the time. Unfortunately for the Beastie Boys, the irony wasn't clear enough and listeners took it at face value, making it into an actual party anthem loved by all the jocks and popular people who made them miserable.

They refused to perform it at concerts after that.

Same thing happened with Blur and "Song 2", but they took it a bit better.

God told me that she doesn’t care what music you listen to, whereas daring to speak for God by declaring which music is sinful is, in fact, sinful.

I am genuinely intrigued how your thought process led you to this. Of all the things to complain about while listening to rap, sex? The constant presence of violence and murder doesn’t bother you? The overt cartoonish depiction of women as nothing but meat, the shallow materialism, the vanity, the pride, the envy, gluttony, sloth... none of that bothers you enough to mention. But talking about sex, the most exciting bit of fun you can have with another person, is an offense of supernatural proportions. Have you never listened to blues music? Blues -> soul -> r&b -> funk -> rap & hip hop, pop, all one progression of the same music. Full of sex. Even gospel music, fundamentally entwined with blues, is inextricably infused with sensuality and sexuality. How have you missed this all this time? Further, I have experienced my share of sex with sanitarily questionable people that fit the descriptions of filthy and dirty, because as anyone who has ever worked in medicine knows, the human body isn’t perfect, it’s a mess, but you learn to love it as it is, that’s just part of life. But I have yet to hear anything like that ever described on a beastie boys album, or any album, rap or otherwise. Fir the life of me I can’t understand peoples horror over others acknowledging that sex is a fun, often funny, often cringey, but universal part of life, for nearly all life forms on earth.

Reminds me of “In Bloom”!
All the jocks/hicks singing along: “he’s the one who likes all our pretty songs, and he likes to sing along, & he likes to shoot his gun... but he don’t know what it means”.

I suspect this will be popular among a select group of their fans, but unless it has the production quality of Bohemian Rhapsody the majority of people will likely skip it.
If there’s one thing Apple seems to have consistently nailed so far in their TV ventures, it’s high production values. Bohemian Rhapsody was a lot of fun, but it was more Docu-drama where this looks like more straight-up documentary.

even better content for tv+ is to bring back revamped older format of history channel where more interesting straight ahead docs were presented in a somewhat more scholarly approach. history channel now is a joke
