Apple Testing iOS 26.6.1 Update for iPhones

Apple's software engineers are internally testing iOS 26.6.1, according to the MacRumors visitor logs.

Apple already released macOS 26.6.1 yesterday with a fix for a security vulnerability affecting the Screen Sharing app. iOS 26.6.1 would likely include bug fixes and/or security fixes as well, should Apple move forward with releasing the update in the coming days.

For example, iOS 26.6 appears to have introduced a bug in the Shortcuts app, so hopefully that would be addressed in iOS 26.6.1.

I wonder if this could explain the delays with iOS 27 dev beta 5.

Apple have had to pool iOS engineer resources to put out these iOS 26 fires.

Also no doubt these fixes will be added into 27 too.

Possibly with the next overdue build.

We'll probably see iOS 26.6.1 drop probably by middle to late next week (more or less).

Personally, iOS 26.6.1 may be the last iOS 26.x release before iOS 27.0 drops about five weeks from now. We might actually see an iOS 26.7 drop in September for those who don't want to immediately update to iOS 27.0.

I will update all my devices to 26.6 first, and see how it goes. No idea what shortcut automations actually are… if battery life is same or better, maybe I’ll update to 26.6.1, but I’m not going to be updating my iPhone every 3 weeks…

I suspect there are different software teams at Apple, one developing the main branch (in this case iOS 26.6) and another one working, in parallel, on some extra fixes. And when 26.6 is released, that second team works on 26.6 applying the fixes they’ve worked on. And of course, another team is working on iOS 27.0, and another one is working on iOS 27.4

I’m guessing that it has been very short between testing and releasing. The article is badly written. Maybe it was released and then macrumors checked the logs and saw it then.

As soon as we just thought that 26.6 would be the last ever iOS 26 update, Apple decided to throw an extra 0.0.1 update in there!

Thanks for clearing that up. My morning-bleary eyes made me think there's a difference between iOS 26.6.1, now released, and iOS 26.6.1, still to be released.
