Hello! I am planning to buy external audio interface (Presonus quantum 2626 thunderbolt 3) to use with MacBook Pro 2015 (thunderbolt 2). The question is: does tb3 to tb2 adapter introduce any additional audio latency? I couldn’t find any conclusive answer, some people say that it is passive adapter and thus it can’t introduce any latency others say that it is active and limits bandwidth and adds some latency. Can somebody knowledgeable clarify? Thanks

are you sure the adapter works in that "direction"? I assumed that adapter is to down-adapt at TB3 machine to old TB2 accessories. I am curious if it will work at all.
I certainly cannot speak to the latency but I imagine you'll find out pretty quick. Sorry I cannot be of more help.

The Apple adapter should work but it is the only bidirectional one that I know of. No idea about latency though.

The adapter will work in both directions as long as the Mac is on macOS 10.12 or later. I can’t say if it will be suitable for audio use, however.

My guess -- and it's only "a guess" -- is that the thunderbolt connection will be fast enough so that latency won't be a problem.

If you're trying to use a tbolt3 peripheral with a tbolt2 Mac, you really don't have any other choice that I'm aware of.

You might try checking over at gearslutz.com (one of the premier audio sites) to see what others have to say about this...
