I have the following set up at home:
  • Apple Time Capsule
  • Macbook Pro
  • Windows 10 machine (which I use for software that don't run on os: FEM, girahomeserver,..)
(I use a separate computer over parallels, since it is software that use a lot of resources of the computer)
(I use Teamviewer to work on the windows pc)

I want to shut down the windows pc and awake him when I need him, often over the internet.

I have followed the steps that are described on the internet, and I can awake the computer in het 20 minutes after he was turned off. An hour later, It doesn't work anymore.

I have found on the the internet that it is because the Time Capsule forget where the computer is (I have made a DHCP reservation to the mac-address of the computer, but if the computer is turned of, the router forgets the pad to the computer)

On the internet, I found following possible solutions:
  1. Make a static ARP-table in the router (not possible with a Time Capsule)
  2. Forward the port (to which the magic pakket was send) to the broadcast address of the router. This is also not possible with the Time Capsule
Does anyone knows another word around?

often over the internet.

What program do you use to wake up the computer? Have you tried to use the Wake-on-LAN feature built into Teamviewer? Some programs might require you to open a port in the firwall on your ISPs modem and your router in order to accsess your computer over the Internet. Also: A simple form of port forwarding should be supported by the Time Capsule.

I use Teamviewer, but I'm open minded (if there is another, better program... no problem)

My ISPs modem gives me a dynamic IP adress, so I made an account on noir.com. The I forwarded the port on my ISPS router to the Time Capsule, then I forwarded the port on the Time Capsule to the IP of the computer. I also made an DHCP reservation on the Time capsule for the computer, based on the mac adres of the computer. It works for 15 minutes. But when I wait longer, it doesn't work anymore.

It seems that the Time Capsule forget that the IP address correspond to the mac address after 15 minutes.

If your Time Capsule is running as Router with NAT both of those are possible. If it helps with wake on lan on windows I don't know.

The second option isn't possible with my configuration. The broadcast address is 192.168.1.255. But when I fill in 192.168.1.255 as the private adsress, I can't confirm (it is gray - see the picture in annex). What am I doing wrong?

You have to enter a give device's IP address there; you can't use the broadcast address. So, if you want to forward the port for something to do with your PC, put your PC's IP address there.

I do that, and it works for 15 minutes. But, I have the impression that the Time Capsule forget that the specific mac-address (which I want to wake op) corresponds with the IP address (which I reserved by the DHCP reservation).

So, I found on the internet that a possible work around would be to use the broadcast address. When you forward the magic pakket to that, the broadcast address sends it to every machine in the network. But only the machine with the correct mac address would respond to it. Then you don't have the problem that the Time Capsule forgets the IP address.
