Rumors have it that Apple is going to spend a dime or two on acquiring ARM, which makes sense seeing as they have over $40 Billion in the bank burning a hole in their pockets. Especially considering their money-cow products currently are all ARM-based designs (iPod, iPhone and iPad).

If anything, this would move those who already disdain Apple into jihad-territory and definitely bring the fast moving and innovative mobile industry to a full stop.

    Nonetheless, it is quite interesting.

    Take it with a grain.

Enderle (of all people) just said Apple was going to acquire AMD.

Indeed but that still makes it fun to discuss these conjectures and rumors.

On the one hand it would lock Apple into a single vendor, themselves, and cost far to much to even make sense. The upkeep would be too severe.

As it stands now they have the freedom to choose between the best options amongst a variety of suppliers and keep a strong focus on delivering a great user experience.

Although controlling both hardware and software is definitely a plus when making any product.

    Can't argue with that! ;)

Well we *do* know for sure that Apple will be pushing their A4 technology, so they might very well invest in ventures that support that effort. Even so, Apple is very conservative in their spending when it comes to acquisitions.
