RCS? What the heck is that. Sounds like a source control system.
You are missing the point. Why would you want to interact and receive pixelated videos / photos from non-apple users? If there is a superior technology why not make the upgrade?Because it solves no problem. There is already WhatsApp and similar apps for cross platform communication. Why do iOS users need RCS - we don't!!!
The real purpose of Google and EU complaining is that iMessage is an ecosystem gem that they are keen to break. The EU came for the Lightning port and it wasn't a big deal. But that emboldened them to come after iMessage. Next, they'll come after FaceTime. And next, multiple app stores: https://www.macrumors.com/2023/11/13/eu-iphone-app-sideloading-coming-2024/
This must stop!!! Apple should leave the EU market rather than break it's ecosystem. Close all the European stores and offices. Fire everyone. Setup shop in the UK. Europeans will still import them because that's how strong the product is. Send the EU dictators a message.

So Apple should remove SMS too? RCS is just the evolution of SMS. They were going to implement it eventually.Because it solves no problem. There is already WhatsApp and similar apps for cross platform communication. Why do iOS users need RCS - we don't!!!
one of many examples:Teach them what? You literally don't have to change any behavior to use RCS. It will just be used in place of SMS when both sides support it.
That’s why there should probably be something like a bubble color or some other indicator for RCS, IMO.one of many examples:
RCS universal profile states 100MB limit for file sharing
non-RCS users still exist.
how will you know if you can send 100MB file?
You don’t understand or not getting the point.I use WhatsApp to communicate with non-iPhone users. If Android users want access to iMessage features, they can switch to iOS. Not my problem.
It will tell you if you are sending it in RCS, just like how Google Messages does nowone of many examples:
RCS universal profile states 100MB limit for file sharing
non-RCS users still exist.
how will you know if you can send 100MB file?
then there's the ability to remove participants from group chats. being able to markup text and send. and so on.
you literally have to change the behavior from the current setup.
average user doesn't know what RCS means. It will tell you if you are sending it in RCS, just like how Google Messages does now
Because it solves no problem. There is already WhatsApp and similar apps for cross platform communication. Why do iOS users need RCS - we don't!!!
I agree completely.average user doesn't know what RCS means.
this is something the user needs to learn. op argued there's nothing new to learn.
This rant makes no sense. Apple is not replacing iMessage technology with RCS. When you text from iPhone to iPhone it will still be iMessage. What this does is starts the process of replacing the very archaic and outdated SMS/MMS fallback standard with the more modern RCS protocol. The only thing that changes is when you send a text message to someone with an Android phone it'll be a better experience with the ability to send and receive high quality images, video, and many other features that old SMS doesn't support. If you refuse to text message people on Android phones you'll never even notice it.Because it solves no problem. There is already WhatsApp and similar apps for cross platform communication. Why do iOS users need RCS - we don't!!!

Apple said they're going to work with the GSMA to add encryption the to RCS standard, so it's looking good on that front. It does not mean we will see everything as blue. And it will not be Google's bad version of RCS. All I hope is I can prevent it from my phone if it sitll isn't end to end encrypted.
How so? How is iOS going to suffer by having better messaging built in? Please give examples of how it will make the OS observably worse.Apple is starting to remind me of Microsoft with windows phones. Starting to accommodate google/android and the Os begins to suffer.
This is about making messaging better for iOS users. You still seem ignorant (whether wilfully or not) of what this would acutally mean for users because you keep saying it's about bringing iMessage features to Android — it's not. It's about making non-iOS messages less of a pain for iOS users. Are you against that? Because if so, maybe no one should take you seriously.I use WhatsApp to communicate with non-iPhone users. If Android users want access to iMessage features, they can switch to iOS. Not my problem.
Why would they have to know? If Apple implement it right, the user shouldn't have to know anything beyond green bubbles being a bit better.average user doesn't know what RCS means.

It seems to be mainly those who do not understand what RCS is, and creating their own take on the matter, and stating non-sense.God, there's some lunatics on here today. LOL.

Ohh the horror of letting users to have choices... also iPhone has less than 30% market share worldwide (~35% in the EU), so majority of people would not even notice if the iPhone would just disappear.Because it solves no problem. People have to figure out new features with technology all the time. This doesn’t take much to figure out other than one day in 2024 when you text your friend with an Android phone you’ll start having more features available like typing indicators, read receipts and the ability to send higher quality pictures and videos. Sure there will be a few changes with group messaging, but RCS will be much less likely to completely break the group message.average user doesn't know what RCS means.

One less thing for MacBreak Weekly's Andy Ihnatko to complain about.![]()
Not being able to remove an SMS user from a group chat is likely an artificial limitation enforced by Apple. They could certainly separate the IMessage traffic from the users that need SMS.because it's impossible to remove a non-RCS user from an existing group chat while group with RCS users you can. how do you distinguish the two?
