Good thing the article was a joke. I don't think it would of worked. It's better that they partner with a cell phone maker so the customer could decide which carrier to use.

Now, should apple make a GSM or CDMA phone? or both?

lol, what's with all the newbie's saying the site is "starting to suck?" There's been many rumors about an Apple phone/service before, too bad that this is not real..I guess, who knows. Can't wait when they release a phone at macworld ;)

It really does suck how rumors and facts are two different things. Can't this site DO something about that? ;)

This joke was OK, but I won't REALLY be ready for MWSF until there's a photo hoax :D Come on, somebody... they're just too much fun!

Old news people. That article is fake. The referring website even prefaces the article with links that show they're just having fun! Today is "April Fool's Day" of sorts for the Spaniards - they publish false stories in their media on purpose.

Yes , it is Fool's day for us, you woldn't want to know what i have been thru today  :(

Okay this was moved to Page 2 and updated that is a "joke" but perhaps it should be take off altogether. What's the reasoning behind it still being up?

maybe a newbie to you because i don't post much but i've been registered for about a year and a half and been dealing with apple products for about 16 years genuis. and that doesn't just mean playing on them, it means actually working.

Let's see - add a small iTrip like device (with phone chip and mic) to the top of the iPod with a little antenna thingy; use the iPod display and click wheel to control phone; synch with iCal and Address Book files on iPod HD; add Mail app - connect to Apple VoIP server

Hello Hello

PS - maybe add voice recognition at Apple server to dial numbers, compose email etc

Newbies...

I'm slightly disturbed by the amount of "newbies" completely slagging of the site!

The reason many of us come to MacRumors is just to get the lowdown. I don't really have the time or inclination to browse through sites with 10's of storys. MR normally displays what's important. OK, so it's been a slow few months - but that just reflects the quality of the rumors in general. I don't think we're missing anything valid - I also think slips like this are bound to happen, but maybe whoever put it on page 1 should be told what page 2 is for....?

I never said you didn't know anything about Apple products, genius. And I'm glad that you've been able to actually work on them, I'm sure no one else around here does.

Too bad this is fake

I was just on the verge of pressing *2 upon my Sprint PCS phone and then yelling into it "see ya jerks in hell!!!!!!"

Okay so I'm not usually as critical as everyone else here but this doesn't belong on this site at all except MAYBE under macbytes in the humor category! It hasn't been "reported" to be a joke...it IS a joke...as stated by the site before you even read the article! It does not belong on page2!!!

would you guys QUIT being so critical of all the folks at Macrumors.com

If you wanna run your own rumor website, then register the IP address and go for it!

Thank you MacRumors, for all the good info and keep doing what you do!

I certainly would have been surprised at this news. Steve has been working with Motorola to develop a partnership. That way they are both using their particular expertise in the project.

I wish this wasnt a joke :(

Although I couldn't do much with my cell service for awhile because I just signed a 2 year contract with cingular the other day

Possibly the worst rumor I ever read

Apple going against Verizon and Cingular and T-Mobile! That is like saying that Northrup Grumman's expertise in building military tank makes it logical for it to enter the sausage and hot dog industry. Ummm! Enriched Uranium flavor!!!

I completely agree with this! Hell i'm probably still a newb myself for I rarely speak, but I tend to enjoy reading the comments related to the news articles. With all this talk of insiders and a drought of Apple-related information, it always baffles me how we rarely get to see 'images' of these new products pre-release. Millions of specs, and the names are usually bang on but NO PICTURES! And then a day later said product is released with a big hoo-haa, countless pictures of families playing with their new gizmos in a field... With so many people involved and the coolness of the products in question, I do not understand how Apple can effectively keep wraps on their new products as well as it does.

Non Disclosure Agreement.

Apple employees all sign one and the penalites are pretty stiff....

does anyone have a copy of the apple NDA? I would love to read it!

Damn! That's ambitious. Go Apple! Show those crappy mobile companies how it's done.

the new AppleMobile wouldn't mean a new mobile providered, just a rebranding of another wireles provider. It wouldn't mean a new Cingular, which operates it's own network, but a new Virgin Mobile, who just is a rebranded front end of Sprint.

If it wasn't a joke, I'd be fooled.

I would show it to you, but I might get sued by Apple. :D

Here is my opinion on the phone rumor:

I know this is most likely a joke, but just listen to what I have to say.

Apple is already making a phone by teaming up with Motorola. Apple hates giving comsumers choices (RealPlayer can't put music on iPods). I think Apple should do something like start a mobile business through Cingular and, say, sell minutes for $.15 a minute or $1.50 a day and $.05 per minute, and then they could port the iTMS to the service and then you could download real music ringtones to your phone for $.99+$.26 data transfer fee. As a promotion, they could give away ten free songs and one-hundred free minutes.

Unfortunately, I must say both. GSM is the way to go, but most of America hasn't figured that out.
