This happened to my Series 0 but i didn't report it since I figured it was old and at the time I already had Series 2 and 4 models also.

I have a first gen Apple Watch, and the screen popped off while I was mountain biking. I contacted Apple, and they replaced it for free. Cool. A couple years later, the screen popped off again. I contacted Apple, they told me they don't support first gen anymore, so I am SOL. I went to a mechanical watch for about a year then got another Apple Watch when I was having some heart palpitations, and I wanted to track my heart metrics for the doctor.

I still have the first gen, sitting in the box it came in with the screen hanging off of it.
I wonder why I didn't get notification about this settlement?

Yep, happened to my Series 1 and I paid I believe $79 to get it fixed (got a refurbed watch via Apple) in 2021.

I remember that vividly because Apple still had COVID protocols in place at the Retail stores.

They replaced it with S0, no questions asked after the warranty was over.
I've always wondered what criteria they use to make these decisions. They absolutely would not budge for me. Is it your lifetime purchase history? Does it need to be in the 6 figures?

My Series 1 black Stainless Steel ballooned up in 2020, I got a replacement from Apple. It swelled up again a few years ago, I replaced the battery myself.

So far it's fine...slow and just use it as a regular watch. I did get one of these emails back on Jan 10 (although it feels like 2, 3 months ago....this is the slowest month in history). It has the "Notice ID:" and "Confirmation Code:"

I went to enter that on the site, it states "A one-time passcode has just been emailed to (email address)...." Well, the email this website states is TOTALLY not my email address. 🙄

Same here, July 2020....yep, all those strict Covid rules were still in place. Could only get inside an Apple store if you had an appointment.

Yeah I had a Series 0, no e-mail..... Why only Series 1,2,3?
The settlement page does state "First Generation or Series 1, 2 or 3 Watch" so we should be covered. I'm not pressed about $20 but... hey, I did use my first gen apple watch for years and it might be nice haha.

I still have it even. The battery had swelled up, pushing the screen so hard that the screen started to catch fire (I looked down and saw a tiny pixel wide ember eating through a row of pixels) as it popped the screen off. I got a replacement screen but never got around to reassembling it.

Good for all affected customers but very small amount, that too after a long time. Glad to see that the dispute has come to an end.

Ha I remember the day this happened to me. I heard a rattling sound on my wrist and thought the steel clasp had come undone, and looked down to see it was the screen completely detached and hanging by its ribbon cable.

$20 here I come!
Yep. And for me they denied it was battery swelling and insisted it was damage, that I had to pay $199 to fix.

I haven’t gotten any notice of this yet, have others? I’m wondering if because they denied it was the battery (even though it was visibly “spicy pillow” swollen that they insisted was “normal”) that my service claim won’t be in the list.

I bet that defending/fighting/negotiating this lawsuit would have cost more money collectively for all parties than $20M

My Series 1 chucked the rubber gasket around the crown and later "couldn't find" a sensor so the battery would churn and die 10 hours after a full charge.

Did the battery do this, or not? I don't care. If they offer a $20 credit I'm taking it.

I was given an old AW3 that I still have. It got me hooked and now I have a 9. I haven't experienced any problems with the 3 though and I'm not the original owner. I'll fill out the form anyway and see if I qualify.

edit: looks like they're sending postcards.
You admittedly didn’t experience any problems BUT you’ll fill out the form anyway…. Why ?

Weirdly my 3 series that I got with a scratch on it from eBay years ago is still going like a champ. My 6 is already under 80% battery. I expect it to outlive my 8.

4 years old and a tiny battery recharged every day. Quite normal is around 80%.
This is the weak point of Apple Watch (and smartwatches in general). Battery must be easily serviceable.

This happened to my Series 1. Apple didn't want to know anything about it. I am in the UK so I guess nothing is covered here?
