With my iPhone, iPad and HomePod already listening for Hey Siri... this is going to cause a bit of a mess, me thinks lol.
The HomePod takes priority every time I use. The iPhone lights up but does nothing once the HomePod takes over. How about a way to prioritise what device answers. Currently my watch answers and phone answers at the same time. I wanna buy a HomePod but will just add confusion on which Siri Im talking to.
That is actually a pretty complex problem to solve. I think it would be nice if they prompted with a notification asking if you want to swap when they detect it.I think my biggest wanted feature would be auto-switching between devices rather than having to go into Control Centre each time I jump from my iPhone to my iPad. It's admittedly a minor annoyance but it would be a big time saver for me.
That plan comes despite reports that current-generation AirPods survive being submerged in one foot of water for five minutes, and even come out the other side of a washing and drying cycle functioning as expected.
It has. It works pretty well. I can have my iPhone in my hand, but only the HomePod responds. Cunning..
I’m skeptical of this report for a couple of reasons:
1. The AirPods are already resistant to water, ie sweat, which is roughly equivalent to “a splash of rain or water.” Does anyone here seriously believe that every time the AirPods get wet you have to replace them? Lol, no.
2. While I could certainly see Apple producing a new and substantially improved AirPod in a couple of years, Apple does not tend to “burn” early adopters so much these days. I suspect it will get updated about as often as the Apple Watch or the Apple TV, for precisely the same reasons: they’ve made such a substantial change that new hardware is required.
iPhone, iPad, HomePod, Apple TV, watch, AirPods. You gotta upgrade all of these every year buddy. lol.Great...another product line with tiny little annual updates. Tim's true legacy.
Water resistance is a welcome development -- should have been part of the initial release IMHO. For everyone saying AirPods are sweat resistant, Apple does not make any claims about that. Officially, they are not certified as sweat resistant. I've been though many pairs of AirPods which Apple replaced on warranty. There is no (easy) way for Apple to determine if AirPods are water damaged so they just replace then. I'm more than 50/50 that my Pods were ruined because of my sweat.
Hey Siri is unnecessary. It's easy enough to double tap. Ironically, you still can't officially "Hey Siri" on a Mac or control HomeKit w/ Siri.
Rather than Hey Siri, what AirPods really need is more tap commands. The reality is, when I'm running it's more comfortable to tap than have to "Hey Siri." Normally I love "Hey Siri," but not in this application. Also when in pubic I'd rather be more discrete and tapping accomplishes that better than "Hey Siri."
Would also love to see AirPods be available in black or gray. Inductive charging is a given since Apple had an AirPod case on the demo AirPower.
