Bro have you seen what they made public for macOS and iOS 26? It's apparent Apple no longer has any QC at all.what the hell. how does this pass qc
They were on vacation. It remains a curiosity how with all the resources this company has, that issues like this escape quality control.
We have to give Apple some Slack here. They're 'new' to iPhone technology but I'm sure they will be able to fixure it out in a few years. It remains a curiosity how with all the resources this company has, that issues like this escape quality control.
Apple is just going to implement some AI code that replaces the box with the colour of surroundings. Basically photoshop the fly. Or they gonna downgrade the performance with a software update. Just like they did with ANC on the Airpods.
How dare ctcwired come up with some outrageous made up claims when t0rqx clearly had already given the scientific answer?!This appears to be a similar glitch to what some RED cameras used to do in their HDRx mode, when combining multiple shutter exposures into a single image for better dynamic range.
I'm guessing the lines are from some kind of sharpening algorithm that got scaled or timed incorrectly, and the black spot is a failed merge of different exposure in that spot. Concerts can be quite flashy and cause things like shutter speed to change rapidly, so I'm guessing something in the pipeline lagged a bit too much.
To be fair, if it is tied to this: "when an LED light display is extremely bright and shining directly into the camera", that would be a rare fringe case. There are a lot of bright LEDs around, but it sounds like it's triggered in specific circumstances (concert with a dark surrounding but bright stage lights). It's so very rare that it was reported during pre-sale with a fix already in the works...
Or are they just promoting the Led Zeppelin - Presence album?
Apple is planning to release a fix for an iPhone Air and iPhone 17 Pro camera bug that causes black boxes and white squiggles to appear in photos. CNN Underscored's Henry Casey discovered the issue in an iPhone Air review when snapping photos at a concert.

He said that one out of every 10 images taken with the iPhone Air or the iPhone 17 Pro had "small blacked-out portions, including boxes and parts of white squiggles" that showed up from the LED board at the event.
Apple told Casey that it's an issue that can occur in "very rare cases when an LED light display is extremely bright and shining directly into the camera." Apple has a fix, and plans to release it in an upcoming software update.
Apple did not provide a timeline on when the software update might be released, but the new models are set to launch on Friday, September 19.

LOL push the camera button, get a “not today” pop up.Oh sweet, we now have got an iPhone that has scintillating scotoma.
I'm wondering if it's going to have headaches, too.
Haha. I agree completely. If you're paying to watch something live, live in the moment!actually glad to see this happening.
PUT YOUR EFFING PHONES AWAY AT CONCERTS

PUT YOUR EFFING PHONES AWAY AT CONCERTS
Let’s hope the update rolls in something to fix the battery life. This is unprecedented.
It’s more about the resources needed to put out a fix that quickly for a rare scenario, instead of focusing resources to fix more widespread issues upon launch. To be fair, if it is tied to this: "when an LED light display is extremely bright and shining directly into the camera", that would be a rare fringe case. There are a lot of bright LEDs around, but it sounds like it's triggered in specific circumstances (concert with a dark surrounding but bright stage lights).
It's one of those circumstances that makes sense that it didn't show up in development. Who was taking the iPhone 17 Pro / Air phones to concerts as part of the development testing?
