Apple plans to announce an all-new "Readiness" app during its "Surprise and Shine" event this Wednesday, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a social media post today, Gurman said the "Readiness" app will be a "variant" of the existing Vitals app on the Apple Watch. "The idea is to better compete with software from Whoop and Oura," he said. For example, Oura's smart rings offer a daily "Readiness Score" from 0 to 100 that shows how prepared your body is for the day.

Introduced on watchOS 11, the Vitals app consolidates your key health metrics, including your average heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen, wrist temperature, and sleep duration from the previous night. Based on many of the same metrics, the Readiness app would likely show you how recovered your body is for activity.

Evidence of the "Readiness" app in watchOS 27 beta code was already discovered a few days ago by a MacRumors forum member known as "pdfu."

The app will be unveiled alongside the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Gurman previously reported that both of these new models will feature continuous heart rate sensing, regardless of whether you are actively exercising.

So instead of making the Apple Watch experience more automatic, more intuitive, and better integrated, they're fracturing the experience further with yet another app. Great.

The Apple Watch user experience is absolutely baffling to me. It feels like a product group that's actually several independent groups who don't share information and don't talk to each other. The whole experience is a mess.

I like the vitals app, will have to see what this offers, and not sure if it is an additional app or will replace the vitals one

Makes sense, they're losing a lot of normies to other wearables, especially in the health/athletics department. Do not misjudge my statement, I realize the Apple Watch still likely dominates the market. However, my anecdotal/personal experience has seen a number of people switch to garmins or bands/rings. On top of that I still meet quite a few people (mostly women) who think the Apple Watch is large and ugly.

This app is clearly aimed at trying to pull back in those people who are jumping ship for the other wearables. (plus all the rumors of Apple coming out with their own band device)

Is this readiness based on heart rate variability measurements, or something else? I guess we will find out tomorrow.

The Apple TV that’s probably not going to get announced is gonna be 1.5 years old tech by the time it hits the shelves. Ughhh

This home hub need an iPad or larger screen and needs to cost less then a much better iPad with an app store
Ughh

Apple Watch data is already way too simplified especially compared to Oura and Whoop. They really should combine the Health, Fitness, Vitals and now Readiness app into one. And make sure everything is easy to see and explained.

I know people still want screen less wearables but for those who do always wear an Apple Watch and like the ecosystem it would be a nice upgrade.

We'll see how good this is. Their Sleep score isn't really all that useful compared to apps like Bevel, Whoop, etc., so hopefully the Readiness app will be more in line with those competitors.

All of the Fitness data is accessible in Health, but I like having the Fitness app separate for the challenges and workouts.

Currently using free Bevel app. Not sure if Apple could offer something better other that more streamlined UI.

Aah nooo! Just pushed my app (BetterRunning) into the AppStore that does just that (and a bit more) and Apple follows… you could have called me Cupertino 😂

Readiness score is actually something I really miss from my Garmin Fenix 6

I still find it embarrassing that it took this long...
