Makes sense for now though I suspect Apple’s very long term plans involve a transition to RISC-V to have total control over their hardware stack.
Apple have a perpetual licence to the ARM architecture, and develop pretty much all their own “IP” (in the chip design sense). That removes most of the advantage another ARM user would get from transitioning to RISC-V. Apple have some of their own extensions, and don’t include all the op codes in ARM’s own core IPs (no 32-bit support, for example).
