I don't see who the target market is for this.

1. It isn't for kids - bigger = easier to break. Plus, for a kid, the "regular" size iPad is already large.
2. It isn't for millennials - nobody wants to lug something around that big that doesn't even function like a full computer.
3. It isn't for business because it still doesn't do half of what the Surface 3 would for businesses.

Who is it for!? Techies and Apple enthusiasts that just want another Apple product around the house?
You obviously don't read prior posts before posting ;)
The answer is 3 posts above your own...
As a muso, I'll buy it in a jiffy :)

I'd like to see Apple take on the larger phone and larger tablet markets, but both products can't be the same ole iOS stretched out. At least the Android tablet makers give you a little something more with the added size. So far all I can see is an extra row of icons.

Now, if the 12" iPad Pro booted iOS when a tablet and OSX when docked to a keyboard then I'm game.

Didn't Tim Cook promise us (and the investors) a lot of great innovative products in 2014? Seems that list is shrinking down :(

Innovative looking maybe. That's not to say that I wouldn't welcome the same concepts in new packaging, or that a bigger iPad / iPhone is innovative.

Galaxy 12 inch didn't really take off, you can get it now for $350.

I don't think this will happen.

Where? That's actually a nice price for it. One that I wouldn't mind paying for a screen that good.

What do people do with an iPad now? Do it bigger!
It is my primary device at home. In order of time spend:

1. Safari
2. Netflix
3. iAWriter
4. all other apps (MLB, NPR, podcast etc.)
5. Mail

I can see myself with a larger iPad. I use a stand for watching and smart cover for typing. The only time i find myself holding the iPad is going from room to room and yes, the bathroom.

I can see a larger iPad for more serious photo/video editing work for me personally. I don't want to drop $2K for iMac and software, to do this.

shake up

I don't think adding another size will "shake up" iPad sales. It will likely fragment it.

Honestly, they make GOOD products with an impeccable useful life. Evidence is with the iPad2 in the wild still going strong. I know people unwilling to part with their 1st Gen iPads.

The only way they could possibly "shake up" sales is with significant price drops or significant software/hardware enhancements........or making junk that has to be replaced faster.

I'm hoping it gets a stylus for art and precision. It's a big reason for a "pro" label. That and showing two apps up when in landscape. But for me and I imagine many artists, a great stylus for drawing/sketching/artwork would make the iPad the best device. Last I checked, the iPad still has the lowest latency and so many people are already in the ecosystem and trying to use expensive styli that just don't work well.

It's not for the average iPad user, but there will be plenty of them taking a good hard look at it anyway.

iPad Pro........guess I won't be upgrading to a Air 2 this year. I'll wait for this.

I've wanted a larger iPad ever since un boxing my iPad1 on launch day and realizing just how small it was in my hands, compared to how large it looked on the Internet.

So yes, no point in me even considering an upgrade this year, if a few months time will bring the larger model I always wanted and have been waiting for, for 5? years now.

Not sure if I would want one. To me the iPad IS still my couch device. I love sitting with it on the couch, browsing forums and read my RSS feeds. 12.9" seems way to big for that.

For work I prefer to do this at a desk with a large screen and my hands and view being 90 degree to each other.

He said something along the lines of 'entries reasonable people would consider new product categories'

Doesn't that make it sound like there will be some debate as to whether it's a new category?

Maybe less iWatch and more 5.5 inch iPhone?

This would be a great device for those in government, business, or for education.

And/or...people like me who don't really enjoy the 9.7" screen on the iPads right now. A larger screen (12.9 would still be smaller than any laptop screen) would be extremely helpful in everything due to the extra 3" of space that you can read/do things on the screen...more emails viewable at once, more lines in the email previews, more content on web pages, bigger for games, larger for great pix that are at high resolution, etc.

Then you have to think about the other factors of having a physically larger iPad...larger/better battery (and that also depends on how much the screen drains it so maybe not much improvement for it actually being "on"), more room for larger storage options, stereo speakers (gasp!), better technology for items like the cameras, etc.

Now...all my above comments are also under the impression that the thing doesn't cost $1999. If it were to start out at $899, I think it would be a big seller.

Either people's eyes are small... or they just want it for the sake of it... there's no real use to this.

I'd get one.

I use my iPad live with my band all the time. We have a Mackie PA system, and use the Master Fader app to wirelessly mix the band. I also use the DJ SoundBox app for trigger live samples.

This would make life a lot easier when im looking to adjust something on the fly while I also play bass and sing.

I don't think this will happen.

There is a huge difference between selling used Samsung Products and Apple Products.

I got close to new price for my iPad 2 when I sold it. My Surface (I paid 900$) I got a 150$

And I bet there's a big market for an 12" iPad. It's used everywhere. So here bigger could be better.

highly unlikely...just awkward to hold and use

In reality, most people including myself rarely hold their iPad for any length of time. I use the smart cover at coffee table or enjoy a Netflix marathon with the Prop N' Go (i'm not promoting this accessory, but I find it extremely handy). I can't imagine watching a two hour movie holding any iPad, but if I can rest it on something watching certainly becomes a possibility! It is unfortunate that Apple is not promoting this idea more.
