Who will pay almost a 1000 dollars for an iPad?. Seriously, what would be the profit be on that thing, maybe 300-400 dollars to make, so 600 dollars profit?

Since a 64GB iPhone 5 unsubsidised is €900 here ($1200) then I'm sure there are people who will pay that for a 128GB iPad.

Disappointing. I had hopes the next iPad would come with 32/64/128gb starting at $499. You can buy a 16gb microsd card for $10 and 32gb for $25.

That could still happen.... with the next iPad (iPad 5).

I think the February launch date of the 128GB model pretty much rules out an iPad refresh in March, which is fine, because the iPad 4 is already overkill for pretty much every app in the app store.

Wait til fall. :D

I agree, I was all but convinced that was what was going to happen. "Apple is overpriced" jokes aside, Apple do use to realign specs like that. For example, every now and then upgrade hard drive sizes and CPU's for the identical price point. So this is actually kind of unexpected. I don't think their mobile devices should have a special treatment compared to all of their other products.

Kind of like they just did with the iPad 4eh?Faster processor, same price.

What they really need is native Bluetooth mouse/trackpad support. Then it will kill off the Surface and put a major dent in all ultrabooks, even the MacBook Air.

As much as I want the next Mac to have a touchscreen display, I don't see myself typing, then reaching for the screen to activate the magnifying glass to modify text. I have to use the mouse.

So, with the iPad, that seems to be the only way to quickly move and edit on the screen. That's the same reason why I never bothered with a hardware keyboard on the iPad.

That and full Office Suite support

Got iPhone 5 and iPad 4 both in 64gb. With lightning, it makes syncing much more faster, but still a pain. I wish I could house my entire itunes purchased movie and tv show as well as music library on ipad.

I have placed an order for a new 27 inch imac customised with a 3TB fusion drive, now debating between an 13 inch Air 256gb and 13 inch RMBP 128gb.

I know come WWDC we will see significant increase In capacity, because apple are being stupid trying to suggest 128gb is enough storage In a 13inch RMBP (for any professional), and I'm wondering if they are going to quit playing this game, or do something before WWDC.. They will start at 256gb flash storage. It just kills me now to have to pay so much for 256gb when it will become the base model later on this year.

Been asking for that forever!

Also, Apple, why not put in 256 GB and leapfrog a little? Clearly with all what's being offered apps , movies music etc. we need the most storage we can get.
Quite. If others don't want it, they don't have to buy it. :D
There are plenty of old farts like me who don't trust the cloud, let alone always be in reach of a connection.

To say nothing of some of us who are contractually required not to put some of our contact data etc on anything other than a mobile device that is encrypted, via a physical wire. Definitely not on a server that might be in another country!

...

Definitely not in the market for this - if I want that much storage, I'll take a laptop, especially since the price spiked for wifi and celluar versions.

If and when the Mini goes retina, I'll take a look (if the price doesn't go up), if not my iPad days are over.

I would consider this price point more of a luxury iPad. It won't sell in masses. That's what the iPad Mini is for.

finally... now where is my 128gb iphone and ipad mini :D feel like they are screwing early adopters again when they'll introduce the next generation later this year

absolutely ludacris margin.

absolutely ludacris margin.

yes - i have the choice to get a smaller storage capacity. But that doesn't stop me from reflecting on apple's greed every time I have to juggle content in order to keep from running out of space.

I think you're paying a big, big price apple - in terms of customer good will - for the sake of some profit.

128gigs.. the new 64gig or Apple just squeezing another $100 bucks out of people? My guess is the 16gig should drop to $399, move the 128gig into the $699 spot by end of the year.

16GB is plenty for many. If you just use it for web browsing, you won't need much local storage. Same applies if you get your content from the cloud (e.g. Spotify, Netflix).

AT&T, Verizon, etc thanks you for this very profitable belief. Please continue to try to woo the naive into believing the streaming everything from the cloud is THE way forward. Meanwhile, AT&T, Verizon etc continue to pinch the tiers to limit how much one can get through their virtual pipes. That (up to unlimited storage in the cloud but tightening tolls on actually accessing it) can't end well.

I'm surprised people expected a price drop. Unless you want the stock to drop another 10%.

Initially I was gung ho for the 128GB iPad. But after using my 64GB for awhile, double the storage would be nice however not at that price point. My iPad is mainly used for gaming/watching movies so he extra storage would be nice but not crucial. For that price, a MBA would be a more reasonable choice.

You do know, you don't have to buy it, right?

I'm still thinking that the capacities will be 16/64/128 at the next update
Most people don't need more that 16GB. They did a similar thing with the iPod touch before the new one came out (8/32/64). With this apple gets to save them their little bit of money that they want and everyone who needs more than 16GB will be content(ish)
