This was IMO the problem to begin with. Apple should have sold the bands and the watch seperately. I would not be surprised if the last minute assembly is causing the delays. And switching bands now makes sense because giving back the watch and then waiting another 6 months for the replacement would be horrible.

Well this is what happens when you buy an expensive watch, you don't return the watch, they order a replacement band for you, be it for fit or style reasons

So does this mean I can cancel my sports Band that I ordered separately. Turn in my Classic Buckle for a Sports Band and get $100 back?

I ordered the 42 mm SS Watch with Classic Buckle for sizing reason (215 mm). I measure right at 210 mm. But I tried both the Link and Sports band at the store and they fit loose. I bought them separately and was going to cancel if they didn't fit.

Great - I ordered a green band and somehow people think green does not look good on my wrist. This is the best scenario since I can try the green band for 14 days then if it looks ugly I can get a white band at no cost :)

That was my first thought (because I would have done the same), but the wording leaves room for doubt.

Black isn't an option for the silver sport watch face (unless ordered seperately). I'm curious as to how they'll approach it.

I'm with you. I ordered a silver sport with white band, but what I really wanted was a silver sport with black band (just plain silly this isn't an option). But I think based on the wording of the what they are saying here, they won't exchange a white band for a black one, because the silver doesn't come that way. Again...not offering the black band makes no sense.

Everything online. For the better customer experience :( Yeah right. I prefer to walk into one of their stores and swap it there, with ANY band I would like. Apple is always ********ting about freedom and diversity, well, then let me decide which combination of band and watch I want, without the delay of an online process. Thank you.

If the band you're swapping out for is worth less than the band you paid for, are they refunding you the difference?

Let me simplify for you:

If you ordered a (say) 42mm Sport Watch in aluminum + blue band and

1) there was a mistake in packaging and you got a white band
or
2) you really wanted a pink band

Then instead of returning the entire watch & band, they just give you the band you want.

If you just want to return the whole thing, then the 14-day return period applies.

See -- not so hard, was it?

Well - still doesn't answer if I'm able to switch the blue sport band with a black sport band if I got the aluminum sport watch with the blue band.

This is what apple should have done from the beginning. Apple should have reduced a number of SKUs by offering limited black/white option for immediate delivery/pickup with an option to swap bands later on, and a BTO option for picking right band from the start via online.

Did you remove links from the link bracelet to size it properly?

Each link has a release button.

That's cool.... The modern buckle I order for my fiancée she may not like.... This is good to know

Band has to be in same band family

Read the article has to be same kind of band, like sport for sport and so on

Is this an attempt to reduce the number of watches needing to be refurbished?

Maybe the watch isn't easily refurbishable? It's kind-of small and isn't a lot of it glued together? It's probably not easy to pull it apart and put the innards into a new casing as Apple usually does with refurbs.

Maybe returns just get scrapped completely?

So this is more an attempt to cut losses?

Apple was never going to do that. Yeah technically you can wear the milanese loop with silver sport watch but Apple would never actively encourage it. To be honest I cringe when I see sport watch with stainless steel band combinations. I don't think it looks nice at all; it looks just mishmashed.

IMO, in person it does look a bit mismatched, but it won't bother some people.

I don't recommend a band swap.

Your box says the band that came with the watch originally. For value and keepsake value, you want to have both the original watch and band as stated on the box.

That's not what I meant. I am in agreement with you. What I meant is that Apple could have stacked the watch inventory seperately from the band inventory. They could still enforce the specific combinations but intsead of assembling them together before shipping could have simply shipped two boxes. This would have been faster or in store let the sales clerk put them together. Waiting to recieve the order to then put the band on the watch, package it up and finally ship it just isnt working.

Hopefully they will easily just let me return my black classic buckle then, I already ordered a Milanese loop since I changed my mind

How do we know this would've been faster? And why ship two boxes when you only need to ship one? I think this will all sort itself out once this initial launch period is over and Apple has a better idea of which models/bands are the most popular by geographic region.

I want to have the space grey band so much anyways.
I want Silver Aluminum with Black band, SS or SG I don't care. If Apple won't allow this, reddit, bandswap, or another service will figure out how to do it. I believe.

Nope. But you probably could return the Milanese loop in the box, for a refund, and then swap the Classic buckle for Milanese because I believe they are both $150 tier bands.
