I mean seriously, there's a lot of "why doesn't Apple do this" type questions out there and MOST of them come down to 'because they make more money NOT doing it'. Examples include...

Not to mention $100 for an extra 8GB of storage, whereas an 8GB SD card is around $30. And over time, their profit margin is even higher. Plus having media on a removable card would make it easier to swap songs, etc. But my Nokia had this ability.

And Bluetooth Stereo (A2DP). Apple won't support this, at least until they have a headset to sell...and not a moment sooner.

Wow...sounds like the signal app that I've had on my iphone for months...

Exactly. See my earlier post (#30). I'm surprised a lot of folks don't know about Signal. Works/looks great, uses WiFi. Curious to see what kind of interface/improvements the app will bring over Signal.

I'm also surprised some folks think that Signal is a "hack" or needs a jailbroken iPhone. *sigh*

Everyone - if you want an idea of what this app from Apple is going to give you, just go here - no jailbreaking required - also, posters...try and read all the comments before posting. :)

Direct iPhone/iTouch via WiFi to Airtunes or Apple TV

In response to the question: Why doesn't Apple enable direct iPhone/iTouch via WiFi to Airtunes or Apple TV? Someone mentioned that constant WiFi data transfer of music would sap battery life... understood.

But what about a quick ~5mb transfer of the song to Apple TV's hard drive, with the iPhone/iTouch then becoming a remote control for the song it just sent? The Apple TV conveniently erases the track after a certain amount of time (and there would be no way to access the track/file other than the original iPhone or iTouch that sent it).

I must be lucky then, because my TomTom works fine in my house. I'm not saying it would work flawlessly, but it isn't impossible.

Thanks for the obligatory rolls eyes, though. Makes your point that much stronger.

bit random and off topic, but my tomtom also works in my apartment. Not that I've actually needed to use it to get round my apartment, but the few times it been on, it has always worked.

I think this may be something to do with me living on top on the 2nd floor.

Juts my 2pennies worth :)

this thing makes me really want to get some speakers hooked up via airtunes. i think its kinda wasted tho, seen as i still live with my parents/in a crappy uni dorm. maybe when i've got my own house i'll get this hooked up, along with all my other home mac gagdets :)

I think this is a great addition to the phone. I have the Mac Mini media center hookup and this will be great. I don't have Airtunes rigged up but it is worth thinking about now, especially if you can control which Airtune units are being used or not.
One thing that has bugged me from the beginning with Airtunes is that you can't use the audio/midi control panel to assign the rear channels of the surround sound output of the mini to a particular AirTunes setup. I would love to have a wireless route to my rear speakers.

This is so cool. Really looking forward to the launch and finally getting an iPhone :)

For $100 it SHOULD come with the IR adapter, IMO. Besides, I want a system that can control EVERYTHING in my HiFi system, not just some satellite receiver I don't even own.
