The banner might be plywood only to reveal a beautiful glass dome when removed. Who knows? I'm not arguing that it definitely will be a glass dome, and I would like to hope it will, it however is just a possibility, and a low one.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised if it was a dome. The plywood mask doesn't necessarily mean the store will be the same shape.

Would be nice if it was in a different location though Lol.

Well my reasoning wasn't because of the plywood but comparing the person in the background to the store it doesn't look really big, so being a dome would make it even smaller and i can't see it being that small, though maybe it isn't that small and the photo is just playing tricks.

It has a downstairs. (might be two floors deeps too but not sure) It could be just like the 5th Avenue store with the glass cube or dome just being the visible side and all the store downstairs. We'll see in about a week.

All worship Apple

Anyone else think it's (probably intentionally) evocative of the Kaaba at Mecca?

Oh, well i hope it is a dome too then :D

Call me silly, but I would avoid creating a square/rectangular black box building in a Muslim country.

Before anyone goes ale-ish, I'd be saying the same thing about different building shapes in other cultures. Just seems to be in poor taste.

So more or less like any other building in all other countries, since they are mostly all rectangular shaped.

Was this a joke post or not?

Steve Jobs adoptive mother was a survivor of the Armenian Genocide which was perpetrated by Ottoman Turks. Steve visited Istanbul as a tourist once and asked his tour guide this, "You, Muslims, what did you do to so many Christians? You subjected 1.5 million Armenians to genocide. Tell us, how did it happen?". The Turkish tour guide’s denials further infuriated Steve Jobs, who left Turkey one day early.

Did you see the picture above of THE most holy Islamic site?

Just poor taste, IMHO. And this is coming from someone who is NOT a bleeding heart type.

Yeah blaming this generation and the country of Turkey for what happened generations ago in another country that was a monarchy makes so much sense.

Seriously why are all western countries acting like they have a clean sheet history? Like Roger Waters' lyrics: "The Germans killed the Jews and the Jews killed the Arabs and Arabs killed the hostages and that is the news."

Americans (Europeans) destroyed Native Americans, had racism in their country till late 60s, obviously British ruled the entire world (imperialism, anyone?) Why all the fuss and supporting Apple shouldn't have launched in Turkey because there was Armenian genocide.

Get real.

If the only problem is the government not accepting and paying fines I get that, and there are other reasons of why they are not. But blaming the people for it? Come on...

I know what Mecca is. But there are tons of rectangular or box shaped buildings everywhere in the world. It's just silly to assume that muslims would take offence on box shaped buildings any more than christians would take offence of the letter "t".

I don't know how much of a historian Jobs was but you need a tutor. Most of the killing of the Armenians were done by the Kurds. And Jobs should have also asked the same question to Armenians, because they killed hundreds of thousands of civilians living under the Ottoman Empire back then.

And I still find it funny that somehow store openings about Turkey end up being a political discussion where a Chinese store opening newsstory would never become about how the Mongolians ransacked villages 500 years ago.

And how many are black like that? .001%?

If you can't see it, then fine.

Black rectangular buildings? From my window I can see several plazas, rectangular with black (tinted) glass. How many can you see from your window?

Where is the Apple Store for the Republic of Ireland. Goddamnit!

I'm surprised that there isn't an Apple Store in Ireland, since Ireland is like their EU headquarters.

Crazy they awarded the tablet RFP to someone without any history, product, or service platforms. Purely because it is Turkish

This will be billions of dollars in wasted investment. An incredible opportunity they let get away

Crazy? Not if it fits to the alleged pattern if corruption in Erdogan's government.

I know. They just use us for the low corporate tax :(

People of Denmark (which by the way is less than 1/3 of Istanbul's population), can drive half an hour to a nearby country's Apple Store and get whatever they want tax-free.. ;)

LOL, gotta love the Scandinavian countries.

Whereas in Denmark people are more educated, probably not that eager to spend too much without thinking about their budget thoroughly and there aren't as much young people, I'm not even talking about the population difference.

Well, the ppl in denmark are "working" very hard on the population these days. - Have you heard about the competition? :)

sorry for asking stupid, but ... how does that work?

Coloured dots forming the top quarter of the Apple logo on the banner represents the iconic Bosphorus bridge's lights. The bridge connects Europe to Asia. Istanbul literally is a city located in both Europe and Asia. Here's a photo of the bridge.

That's the very first question I asked myself seeing the article's photo... so thank you ! :)
