I'm glad Cobb will have an Apple Store now. It seemed odd to me that there was no Apple Store west of GA 400.

As others have said, I'm sure with the Braves moving to that area in a few years, the area is going to have a whole bunch of new development/redevelopment.

Assuming Cumberland Mall is revitalized, once that occurs, the rent prices inside the mall will likely skyrocket. Perhaps Apple got in early to secure a long-term lease at a far lesser cost than what the cost would have been in two or three years.

People who live in Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, and Wyoming are still waiting for their first Apple store.

With a combined population of 5 to 6 million, that means there are at least a few Mac users still waiting for a Genius Bar in their state.

With 5 to 6 million people, they should definitely get a store of their own. Burlington VT would make sense-- that would take care of that 5 to 6 million, right? ;)

Awfully optimistic there. I hope you are right. The stadium sure didn't help the neighborhoods around Turner Field.

True, but in all fairness, even if the new Braves stadium were to have a negative impact on the surrounding area, that part of Cobb has a lot further to fall to get to the place where the area around Turner Field is now. I'm not saying it can't happen, but I think it's much less likely. Time will tell, though.

I'm totally guessing, but I'm betting that someone at Apple Retail has been given some inside information about redevelopment of Cumberland Mall and the general area surrounding the mall and they're optimistic about the store's location.

The reason I say that is this -- I am not aware of a single instance where Apple has opened a new store in a location that was trending downward and was forecast to stay that way. Maybe it has happened; but I am not aware of it. And, as others have noted, there are several mixed use commercial/residential locations in Metro Atlanta that have heavy foot traffic that would seemingly also be prime locations for an Apple Store. There has to be a good reason -- or several good reasons -- why they chose Cumberland Mall. This is not Apple's first time at the retail store rodeo, after all.

While its ZIP code may say Atlanta, the new store - like Cumberland Mall - is in Cobb County, and nowhere near the Atlanta City limits. It would be better described as being in Smyna, the nearest city, like the other stores mentioned in Buford (Mall of Georgia) and Alpharetta (North Point Mall).

The zip codes in Atlanta - as determined by the US Postal Service - have lots of codes that say "Atlanta" but have nothing to do with the city. It was more popular to have an "Atlanta" address than say "Sandy Springs" or "Dunwoody" when those areas weren't able to incorporate themselves.

Edit: By the way, Perimeter Mall isn't in the city of Atlanta either. It's either in Sandy Springs or Dunwoody, depending on where the county line falls between Fulton and DeKalb. So Atlanta really only has 1 Apple store, at Lenox Mall.

It's ITP though so if anything it would be Vinings.

Now that every single fortress mall in the suburbs has an Apple Store maybe the people who live intown can get some love.

iPhone Development

Fist of all thanks for sharing this post and I wonder what this could be in time for?

i had fun at the opening it was an enthusiastic bunch. its a nice size store seems to be about the size of the Lenox location. i got a couple free shirts and was out. i don't need anything until the new iPhones drop.

I agree! Was there and it was a lot of fun chatting with others in the line and sharing in the experience. Also, the t shirt rocks :)
