Apple will open a retail store in the Austrian capital of Vienna on Saturday, February 24 according to a new webpage for the store published recently on Apple's site.

The new three-story Vienna Apple Store is located on Kärntner Straße, a famous shopping street in central Vienna, and for the last several months, Apple has been renovating the location.

Kärntner Straße is near Stephansplatz, a square located at the center of Vienna that's home to the Stephansdom cathedral, which is known as one of the tallest churches in the world. The street is home to dozens of well-known retailers, like H&M, Forever 21, Zara, and more.

Apple's building is located on a corner and has been outfitted with modern-looking glass panels that replace the former metalwork that was in place. The Vienna location will adopt the new store layout that's been rolling out around the world, with dedicated areas that include the Genius Grove, The Forum, and The Avenue, aka various parts of the store dedicated to support, classes, and shopping.

Rumors of a new Apple Store in Vienna first began circulating in August of 2016, when it was reported that Apple was close to inking a deal for a flagship retail property that was formerly occupied by fashion company Esprit. Apple began posting job listings for the store a year ago in February of 2017.

Ahead of the store's opening on February 24 at 9:30 a.m. local time, Apple will allow customers to make Genius Bar appointments and sign up for Today at Apple classes.

(Thanks, Michael!)

Here’s the location, at the former Esprit store.
If history and memory serve me, there's certainly no shortage of gorgeous, historic buildings in Vienna.

However, the corner facade of the lower two floors in the above picture, that are allegedly going to be housing the new Apple Store appear drab and uninspiring, imho. Not in keeping with the rest of that finely detailed building, or many of Apple's European flagship stores, for that matter.

Hopefully the final result of Apple's renovations in Vienna will be a restoration to former detailing.

A: "When does this open? Last time I visited it still looked so empty inside."

B: "It already shut down again. It's now a Starbucks with a tattoo studio."

A: "Really? Again?"

xD

That was a comment to an article on standard.at, an Austrian news page.

But cool...The first apple shop in this country, im sure looking forward visiting :)

First Apple Store in Austria, only 4 in Switzerland, only 15 in 12 cities in Germany. Apple stores are still spread way too thin across Europe, so most people will have to travel a hundred miles to the next severely overpopulated store only to wait for hours for a spontaneous appointment (or make one a week ahead).

Hardware service is a if people don’t want to go to some retailer or can’t because they need a replacement device.

Three stories? I’m pretty sure there’s two unless there’s a basement for customers.

I can’t see Apple doing anymore three level stores.

Look at the pictures in the lower comments
The entrance of the Apple looks gorgeous imo

Please Apple, come to Leipzig, Germany.

I know a really good location for you there :)

Sincs there is a Store already in Dresden, I doubt there is ever going to be a Store in Leipzig, the two cities are too close.

There are places in the US that are underserved, too. Building out actual physical stores is always risky for businesses. It can sometimes result in overextending a company’s resources. Apple seems to be going at a cautious pace.

While Vienna has not had official apple stores, they have many apple-like premium resellers and authorized service centers.

Stores like McShark look and feel just like one

Mc Shark feels like crap (bought my macbook there, but only because there was no official store), sorry but the service quality there is very disappointing and they also can't offer repairs in store (they send them to Ireland repair centers), so an official store is welcome news

Why not? Some cities do have two stores in Germany... that should be even closer ;)
And since nobody ever wants to travel to Dresden, Leipzig would be a valid location for a new store :p
