At $250.00, I give it serious thought. I just sold my iPhone 4S and had an iPad 2. iPhone screen is too small, iPad 3 screen is a bit large to carry around. This new device would be perfect. Large enough to read books and do some serious surfing, and small enough to almost carry in your pocket.

This porridge is too hot, and this porridge is too cold....

Let me just jump straight to after they announce the iPad mini.... If only there was an 8" tablet it would be just right!

This will drive my stock even higher. I'll profit off all the people that swore this was a really stupid idea. Funny how things work out. Everyone's an expert till Apple proves them wrong. :D

You mean until Apple proves Apple wrong. :D:p

Sad that Apple is so quick to toss out Steve Jobs' opinions now that he's dead. Steve knew that the public wanted a 10 inch screen.... hence why iPads dominate the market and no one can even name an android tablet. He would have never let this 7 inch iPad happen.

Testimony and emails presented in court tell another story.

Qoi? You do realize the only thing that always released 4 months before the holidays was the updated iPod line up. The iPhone was released mid year, way before holiday season was ever considered.... exception iPhone 4, which broke the cycle that worked thanks to the idiots at Verizon who couldn't wait till June.

So roll those eyes back...

yes, so all of them before holiday season which is the reason behind my

Look up in the sky...Right now. Did u see it? It was the joke going over ur head.
sure, a "joke", you keep telling yourself that... ;) <see what I did there w/ an emoticon :p

Uhm, he approved it.

*gets camping gear ready & a couple thousand dollars to spend on Apple products*

LOLwut?

Who gives a crap what Steve would have wanted.. You don't know how he would react to the 7" tablet sales. Also he's not the head of the company anymore ,everyone needs to get over it.
Was Steve alive when apple hit its all time high market value? Noppeeeee

If this iPad can come out before holiday season, this will be THE device to get this year.

I can see the "Man Purse" being a hot seller this holiday season. ;)

I've already got one. It's black and leather but I like my Tucano slim 13" backpack better as it's easier to walk with and super thin and doubles as a man purse.

As I said, at $250.00 I give it serious thought, and $200.00 that's just a no-brainer. If this thing priced at $200, how long before apple has 99% market share in the tablet world. How would anyone complete with Apple with a $200 offering?

With the stock price at an all-time high, and more money than god... I think Apple tries to land the knock-out blow with Amazon, Samsung, Google, etc. and lose some initial money and price it at $199. Wow, just imagine $199. Not $499, $399, $299 or even $200. But $199. You'd see non-Apple tablet liquidation sales everywhere.

If this happens with either a 200 or 250 price point then android prices will crumble. There is no such thing as competition in a market where apple covers every price and spec point. This is literally exactly what happened with the iPod. They launched one, it was a hit and they easily claimed over half the market. They launched another, and the term iPod became synonymous with every MP3 player available, not to mention a 90% or so market share.

$200 iPad mini vs $200 iPod touch

Cupertino, we have a problem.

With the Apple eco-system, basically none really have a chance.

I think this iPad mini though comes in at $299.

Why?

Retina display and nice back camera. There is no way this thing doesn't have a retina display..the iPhone has one. The iPad has one. No way they release the one between without one. They also both have cameras. No way they release the one between without one.

So you will see a $299 price...I'd jump on that in a second...most will...because for $100 more, you get a better product, better design, better OS and better eco-system.

Steve Jobs approved it. He left them a 4 year road map. This was in the works for a while. On top of that Eddy Cue even said Steve warmed up to the idea of a 7" tablet for on-the-go.

That's why it will be $299...mark...my...words. ;)

Plus, wouldn't be surprised to see the iPod Touch drop to $175 or even $150. It's niche is going away...probably the last swan song for it.

Apple only reached its all-time high because of the improving market and many plans that Steve Jobs had already set in motion.

Also, Steve Jobs stated that he thought 7" tablets were a terrible idea. And this is a 7.85" tablet, which is actually >40% larger than 7". AND 7.85" doesn't even round to 7". So it is safe to say that Steve Jobs would not have wanted a 7" tablet, and Apple isn't making one.

So now it's a brilliant idea? How many of those who said it was stupid and Apple would never make one are now singing it's praises?

I haven't seen that many people criticizing a 7.85" tablet, only a 7" tablet. I think 7.85" is still too small, but I haven't tried it of course.

I don't know why but I feel like I need one. Can't decide if I'd want this over my 10.1.

(-waits for trolls to tell me what Steve would/would not have allowed-)
(Edit: -reads first post...ugh.-)

I know exactly what you mean. I still have an iPad one and haven't upgraded because I don't need the extra power. I really use it mostly for email, surfing the web, ebooks and netflix.

I think a smaller, lighter version with the retina screen would be great for my needs. Typing wouldn't be such an issue as I tend to use the dictation feature on my phone and mac, so i'm used to it now.

There was plenty of criticism about a mini iPad, until it became obvious that it is going to become a reality. Suddenly, it's a brilliant idea.

Sad news if Apple is not working on secrecy no more... I will miss the old days. Remember the other Apple in Europe? Archos? As soon they stop secrecy and innovation they went down the toilet with Android cheap toys.

Everyone complaining about where is the new iPhone, iMac, iPods, iPad mini, iPad 3.1, & Mac Pro needs to realize that there is no reason to release anything, just the anticipation has made the stock increase so much. My theory is Apple isn't going to release anything ever, just keep spreading these MacRumors! :D

Seriously there will be a new iPhone yearly, there may be a iPad mini, the Macbooks will update twice a year and obviously all desktops and monitors are now on a 2+ year release cycle.

your joking right??? If you don't want a 7" ipad, don't buy it. How does that affect you? Who cares what steve jobs thinks? He's dead.

I really did not believe they would make a smaller iPad. But these rumors just ain't quitting. I think there is a definite market for 7 inch tablets if they can get the price point down a bit. The nexus 7 is a lot of tablet for $200 and I know apple can do better.

Apple can do better than $200 for a 7 inch tablet? Apple doesn't go after the low market. I know we all wish for our own wallets that Apple will make a $200 tablet but it's just not gonna happen. Apple makes at least a 30% profit of of hardware, and it's always beautifully well-designed hardware at that. They even said when making the Air that they couldn't put out a subpar product just for the sake of price. I think everyone is setting themselves up for disappointment if they put out a 7.85 inch tablet for higher than $200. But we are on macrumors after all.

Praying this is true. I'll be buying one for my kids, and another for my mother in law.
