That's kind of the point of AppleGPT. It's eventually going to replace Siri. Siri isn't generative AI, it's really old tech that's a burden to update. There's essentially zero reason for Apple to attempt to fix Siri, that projects needs to be rebuilt from ground up as a generative AI and not a crazy DB lookup.
How do you know that it's a burden to update, and how do you know Siri is just a "crazy DB lookup?"

If this was your area of expertise and research, why would you work at the company that forces Siri on its users?

Not sure if Kosh utterances would be any more helpful. 😅
LOL.

Sadly Apple would probably get sued for it - with my sensible hat on I suppose maybe with some justification since it's not inconceivable to imagine Siri being used in a life-threatening situation - but if it wasn't for that pretty major issue it would make a rather good April Fool's joke for Apple to switch everyone's Siri to "Kosh mode" for a few hours on April 1st.

Real life Apple AI experience this week while making a sandwich:

“Hey Siri, set a timer for 3 minutes.”

“Ok, I’ll set your alarm for 3AM.”

They are so far behind, it’s hard to have hope.

It still baffles me that many think Siri is Apple’s Ai initiative. I hope Apple keeps separate from the Siri.
I don’t want personal stuff asked for Siri to be sent for training a GPT.

I DO want Siri to be AI. It shocks me that Apple hasn't been on this for years. Siri has not fundamentally improved in several years, so far as I've been able to tell. Apple has dropped the ball on this and I hope they catch up soon.
I don’t want Siri with access to personal information on my phone feeding any GPT models. Apple can bring in a chat bot for people to ask questions or what ever. If Siri has any of the Language modeling, hope Apple gives users to decide what Siri can access on the phone.

What exactly is the millions of dollars going towards: payroll, hardware, real estate to store equipment? I just would like to know, why does have to cost so much money to build this?

Siri has been ridiculed in tech circles, for its capabilities. Perhaps even in the mainstream.

Perhaps any new Apple A.I. initiative should not mention Siri in marketing.

Yet I can see Apple doubling down and call it Siri GPT.

If nothing else, I hope Gen AI will help Apple replace their marketing department and update their overused lines.

"Our new iPhone is the newest iPhone yet. We think you'll love it." Come on.

How about making Siri smarter and more useful 🤔🤨
Yes, exactly. But do you want Siri to do lookups to existing articles or do you want Siri to generate its own answers which could be wrong?

This is the problem, all GPT-like AIs produce wrong answers. A classic example is to ask GPYT about "George Washington's grandchild Susan". Of course, Washington had no children. But some GPT-like AIs will make up an answer. The GW case is obvious but there was another example where a law firm ask GPT for case law that would suport a certain opinin. GPT simply invented a case frm thin air. GENERATING answers is very different from looking up answers.

This is a so-far unsolved problem and something Apple and Google and others are looking into. The problem is ot insurmountable.

If you got a PhD in generative AI around 2010-2017 your value in the marketplace if you have any skills is now greater than a million a year. Never have so many math “nerds” been getting rich outside of finance. Every company is hiring AI people as fast as they can train them and paying them insane amounts of money. It’s really a frenzy unlike anything I have seen.

Your second two paragraphs seem to undermine the thrust of your first. Whether Siri uses generative AI or not, it will still give wrong and biased answers.

I got close, but I rarely write "artificial intelligence" instead of "AI", so I lose.
