Very smart.

im not so sure. Recall all those brazen in-store thefts? Imagine those thefts raised to vans driving into retail store or mall break-ins after hours, especially with pandemic restrictions, malls don’t get much traffic. Thus the need for mall security (costs) numbers also drop.

I’m not sure who here has lived in a metropolis with such a long extended phase 2 lock down before going to phase 3 or worse dropped back to phase 2. those whom have, have you noticed the extreme lack of police force in cars across your city during the original phase2?

in Toronto, I live in the centre of 3 police stations that are VERY close by and seen 3 cop cars day or night during a 3 month phase 2 and yet during phase 3 seeing 15 a day another 7 a night on average.

I can estimate a large increase of Store robberies will occur during this change. And to state officially I have no incentive nor thought nor plan nor association of any crime(S)!

I highly doubt Apple would do that. It represents a small financial reward in return for a potential huge hit to their image if it got out that they were doing that.

The employees working at the Apple Store don't always follow policy.

So basically the same thing Best Buy has been doing now for two years?
Late to the party as usual, eh Apple?

I’m assuming you didn’t read the Reddit thread you posted/linked. Because if you had, you would see that that thread was over a year old based off one customers viewpoint of over Hundreds of Apple stores. That’s not Apples practice whatsoever.

Build-to-order choices will have to continue coming from a central location or from China, of course. I enjoyed watching the route taken by my MacBook Pro 13" with upgraded ram in the summer: China; South Korea; USA (Alaska); Germany; and finally the UK. On the way it travelled in time (it crossed the International Date Line) and visited Father Christmas (it travelled across the Arctic). Much more fun than just having it brought from my local Apple Store!

As someone has already posted many stores have been doing this for years and I know especially Abercombie & Fitch have been doing this for as long as i can remember. I suppose the downside would be walk-in purchases if stock was running low for whatever reason and the store had to fulfil online sales

It looks like Apple has been fulfilling orders from their stores for a least a couple of weeks. I ordered a few cables for my new iPad Pro and I was a bit surprised to find that they shipped from one of the Apple stores near me. Up until then, every accessory type item that I ordered from Apple was shipped from their warehouse in Tennessee.

Apple has a long way to go to catch up with Amazon and Walmart. I recently ordered new Mini, elected to pay $8 for "faster shipping" and it's still going to take nearly 4 weeks to ship to me (from China). I think their supply chain is broken when I need to put a credit card in front of them before they issue an order to BEGIN production by a Chinese manufacturer. Do they even have a STOCK to sell from other than discontinued (refurbished) products? An eBay seller is faster.

Don't get me wrong. I LOVE their products but what seems to be important to them (color?) is not the same as I.

Using retail stores implies that their channel will stock a product for fast delivery. As it his now, I have begun to look for products coming directly from China and accepting their longer delivery time over direct purchases from Manufacturers because they CAN'T deliver.

Doubt me? Try configuring/ordering a system from Apple and just witness the wait times before you finalize a purchase.

Everyone's experience will differ, of course; but I ordered a custom-build 13" MacBook Pro on 27 May 2020 and it was delivered to my home in the UK on 3 June. That included a couple of days going round a finance approval loop. Processing the order in China took from 29 May to 31 May, then there was a departure scan from the manufacturing facility on 1 June at 3am. The package then went from Shanghai to South Korea, Anchorage, Cologne and finally to Stanford-le-Hope in Essex, UK, from where it was delivered to me on the morning of 3 June. There's actually an extra day in there - the China/South Korea element of the journey is the other side of the International Date Line - the package left South Korea on 1 June and arrived in Anchorage on 31 May.

You are correct in that everyone’s experience will differ, but the experience also differs by product it seems.
As far as hardware goes, I ordered an Apple Watch Series 6 on launch day and received it 6 days later direct from China to the US. I ordered an iPad Pro at the end of August and it took 34 days to receive it direct from China. My Mom ordered a BTO iMac a couple of weeks ago and received it in less than 10 days from Ireland to the US. Product shipping times seem to be all over the place.

They also offer same day delivery in 2 hour time frames via courier for $9.

Yes, I ordered a series 6 Apple watch yesterday at 3:00 pm and it was delivered to my house at 4:00 pm. the $9 delivery charge was well worth it. Helps that I live 10 miles from the Apple store.

As most of my online orders are base configurations, this is great news. I prefer buying online but I often get impatient waiting for my Apple products to arrive!

And this illustrates why Apple should look at buying Target. Then they could take it to Amazon and have more value for the “Apple One” eg “Apple Prime”

Dang it. I live more than a hundred miles from my closest Apple store (which also happen so to have the iPad I ordered in stock). The wait continues.
