I have multiple watches and love them all, Breitlings, Tag Huers etc but I also happen to have a pebble smart watch which I absolutely love. Its casual and it's just kinda of fun. I work in IT and I get compliments all the time about my pebble. The only time I don't wear it is when I'm in a big meeting, then ill strap on the other watches. If anything in the business world for me at least having a nice watch is a must have to be taken seriously.

I'm charging my pebble watch once in a week. Anything less would be very bad.
Granted you want them to last as long as possible, but a pebble does next to nothing, whereas whatever Apple releases will be doing all kinda of things constantly.

The high-end watch market is still big bucks

I thought this iWatch thing was hopeless, nobody wears watches anymore. But some basic research on Bloomberg etc shows that the high-end luxury watch market is actually making record sales. There's $50B+ demand for luxury watches. And we all know the iWatch is definitely going to fall into that category. Apple has enough marketing and retail presence that they could drive millions of units in iWatch sales globally. At ~$299-$499 a pop x couple million units they can make a few extra billion and go home with a win in Apple's mind.

Apple should have picked up Nest as well to open more avenues but that's a different thread.

The iWatch is going to make your life a living hell.

"Good morning! I see you're due to arrive at work at 7am today. It's now 4:43am... just enough time to eat a healthier breakfast and jog to work. You spend an average of 97% of your time sitting or sleeping, and I've taken the liberty of disabling your car so you aren't tempted to use it."

Bahahaha! Literally made me LOL!

I hate how Macrumors keeps saying Apple has issues with the battery development like theres something really bad happening thats holding back the iWatch. One analyst said that to grt attwntion and now its being used in every article to add pointless and incorrect sensationalism.

Apple are meerly looking to develop a better way to power their device for longer.... Thats just R&D, something they still like to do as to avoid doing what theor competitor did and release a sub standard product to thw market.

Spot on.

That's why there aren't any watches anymore. Nobody bought them, so the watch industry closed down. Look at a dedicated watch forum like "watchuseek" - it's a complete wasteland. Nobody posts there because they all are busy posting on macrumors and android central talking about their cell phones. Have you ever tried to find a watch on Amazon? It's almost impossible.

Ever heard about that kickstarted project "Pebble"? It's a flop - instead of the targeted $100.000 goal, they barely made it over $10.000.000.

I'm not going to lie, I thought you thought you were correct (ie, you were serious) and then I got to the last line.

Too many things......

to consider when thinking in power supplies (i.e. batteries) for mobile or wearable devices:

Capacity
Mode and time used charging
Size, as a design consideration
Cost, supplies

I can see why Apple is delaying this rumored "iWatch". And I hope I am right: Better release a product finely ironed out and with a nice host of features than vaporware for competing and entering into a new market.....:D

Good luck with this venture, Apple Inc (yeah, no Apple Computer).....:D

:):apple:

[QUOTE

3) Tim Cook has alluded to your concern, saying something to the effect of, a wearable would have to justify its existence and convince people who have never worn a watch. Only time will tell, but it's something Apple is aware of.[/QUOTE]

Does Tim Cook wear a watch?

Enough with this iWatch stuff already! I haven't worn a watch since I was 12. With everyone having cell phones these days I really honestly see absolutely zero purpose for such a device.

Awe. You have no imagination. Were you in 2007 and yelling enough with the smartphones!?

I'm a little annoyed to read comments here that the new Apple watch will finally be able to do more than just tell time. And how in the past a watch was able to just show time and maybe the date

This Casio watch released in the year 1984 was touch screen (with your finger and not stylus) and pretty accurate even with such a small screen. And of course was able to do also more than show time. And there were many watches like this one

For some models the battery last even 10 years.

Hmm ..interesting the address of the first picture points to microsoft research

What's wrong with your average coin cell Apple uses in their remotes ?

All watches today use coin type, and would last allot longer than any of the battery's would last longer than any of the batteries Apple makes for their products.

Is their a reason why Apple didn't choose coin cell ? They already have it small already, just change the shape if they want... technology is already there.

And would last allot longer probably then their one they are working on for the iWatch, since you'd only go a week .... compared to a few month, or longer with cell..

Makes more sense.

Seems to me, Apple favoring technology ie wireless charging, and/or other methods over longevity.

I vote longevity...

You are basically advocating that everyone should use a pocket watch. Like from the 1800's.

No thats not it, he has shares in mobile companies and the more people that frequently take their phones out of their pockets, the more phones that get dropped and have to be replaced, making more money ;-)

And when you get to 13, you might change your mind :D

It'd be yet another device to have to be plugged in at night. Yes I'm aware of the Pebble watch however at what point do we stop calling it a watch? Wouldn't it look rather silly seeing someone holding their wrist up to their ears so they can hear what the watch is saying? I'm sure a device large enough to be comfortably on your wrist would have to have pretty small speaker(s) with low audio output.

I'm also not trolling. I'm an Apple fan just like the rest of you guys here.

It would be cool if the watch was actually a phone that could easily be removed from the strap to put up to your ear as you have with bluetooth earpieces or to charge.
To browse the web on a larger screen, you just pull your air display out of your pocket and the watch gives you a data connection

I wear a Fuelband now and I love it. Its not as obtrusive as a watch, blends well, and gets me the info I need that it provides with a button.

That said, if the iWatch is anything like this - I'm in.

If it is like a nano on a band, I'm going with this:

I thought this for a day as well. However, then I realized, Nest has not made anything that Jony Ive and co. couldn't recreate or improve upon if given a month to work on it. It's a WiFI thermostat with a nice case. I like Google as a company, but as an investor, buying Nest for $3.2 billion was a nutty move.

The pocket watch was a way for us to tell the time when we were out and about

The wrist watch replaced the pocket watch because it was more convenient to look at your wrist to tell the time than reach into your pocket.

The smartwatch will replace the need to go to your pocket for your smartphone to see who is calling, texting, emailing or to check the time.

See the pattern here?

The smartwatch will replace the need to go to your pocket for your smartphone to see who is calling, texting, emailing or to check the time.

The problem lies with the implementation. I still have to physically remove my phone from the pocket to reply to a text (unless i want to write a lengthy message from a watch face)..and remove the phone to talk to it and use the features. Thats why the ability to communicate and take over some "practical" functions from a smartphone would be only a SECONDARY capability for a smart-watch. It has to offer much more then that in my opinion.

Theoretically a really futuristic bluetooth headset (bluetooth earpods etc) paired with a smartwatch could pretty much take over 100% of the calling features from a phone (phone can be neatly tucket inside a pocket or in a bag) but then would you spend 400 dollars for that (300 for the watch, and a 100 for the ear pods :) )..Thats why i never got the idea of the samsung gear, why would I buy a freakin Phablet behemoth with its AMOLED shiny peice of display and have it tucket inside my (large) pocket only to use my watch to answer calls? :)...I mean if i were to buy a phablet i would do it precisely to make use of the large real estate and the benefits that has to offer.
