The AAA of stocks do import labor like Disney does/did. They are smarter at it.

Because most countries, unlike USA, do not require a wasteful four nonsense college before entering a professional course such as engineering, medicine law, technology specialties (involved in this thread), they are super specialized (with experience) in their mid-20's! In the USA, such graduates do exist - almost a decade later!!!

They can problem solve earlier in life, so can make changes, and are more attractive to the companies ... with also being much cheaper to employ, almighty dollar factor!

Disney just did not do it well (subtle) enough. There!

Would you consider abiding by the Nuremberg laws of 1935 (and sub) socially responsible?
Interesting question. Also far off topic.

If you think the very corporations that lobby to write laws are socially responsible because they then abide by these laws, well then I just don't really think we will find much common ground here.

Since you don't think people have a right to have laws represent their interests, you're correct: we won't find much common ground.

And this has nothing to do with socialism, in any way shape or form.

The first paragraph of your reply says otherwise.

This "alphabet" name change is killing me. Stupid name and Google is just so iconic.

Iconic? I don't think you know what that means if you would say that and stupid in the same sentence. You do know a certain fruit named company has one of the most iconic corporate logos ever made?

I meant alphabet is a stupid name, not Google. And I know what iconic means, thanks.

Ah, gotcha, sorry I read that wrong. Well to be fair Google for sure still exists for the products. If they actually ditched Google for Alphabet across the board, that would be crazy. But Alphabet is just the umbrella company, so it really doesn't matter from an name recognition standpoint with the products.

Regarding the whole discussion of "social responsibility"...um, I don't really think they take that into consideration in this particular ranking, considering Exxon Mobil is ranked #37. Unless you consider drunken ship captains causing massive oil spills off the coast of Alaska "socially responsible." Yeah, yeah...I know it was almost 30 years ago, but I still have images of people trying to scrub the oil off of birds and sea otters with dishwashing soap in my head.

So, by comparison, I don't really have a problem with Apple mining "our earth for so many resources that go in basically throwaway electronics," especially considering that I (and YOU, Surf Donkey) are using said "throwaway electronics" to type snarky responses on forums like this every day. You don't like the company? Then what exactly are you doing at MacRumors while presumably typing on your throwaway electronic device? Well, I guess I'm not better...I just filled my car up at a Mobil station this morning!!! ;)

Directly from the article, it is one of the 9 criteria:

To create the 54 industry lists, Korn Ferry Hay Group asked executives, directors, and analysts to rate companies in their own industry on nine criteria, from investment value to social responsibility. A company’s score must rank in the top half of its industry survey to be listed.

But I agree, ranking Fortune 500 companies with revenues of $10 billion or more as "admirable" is just a stupid poll to begin with.

I do think their is far too much electronic waste in our world these days. Apple claims they are improving this waste imprint, and I do think that is great (perhaps even admirable). But the fact is this all still has a damaging impact on our environment. Especially when you continue to introduce new plugs (ie chargers, lightning headphones) that cause all previous products to be obsolete and essentially waste. And sure, call me hypocritical for partaking in these massed produced electronic devices if that makes you feel better. Still doesn't change the fact that this all has very negative impact on our environment. And to see all these corporations that contribute to this called "admirable" is just disturbing.

Anyways, it is a stupid topic. Its clickbait fluff for Macrumors. And I have already wasted far too much time responding to it.

A triumph of spin, economy with the truth and downright lying. Oh, and the total gullibility of Apple fan-boys.

Would have thought Microsoft would have been tight on that list
Still many dislike MS for their past evils and if you're a non Windows user in a company with MS centric IT, for instance, you can't help but despise the fact that so many excellent multi platform protocols/tools exist but they use ones from MS which are designed to lock out or suck on other platforms.

Seriously, every time I see that Google is actually called 'Alphabet' I cringe and think 'what a stupid name'.

Betcha that reason alone is why Apple > Alphabet.

I don't understand why people rank Google (Alphabet) so high? They read your private mail to create targeted ads so they can make more money?

And where is Tesla?

Not after Windows 8.

I struggle with the methodology for "world's" most admired companies that leads to number 4 being a company which the majority of the world have probably never even heard of. I guess this is "world" as used in "world series" rather than the planet earth.
