Once you put the iPhone in and fold it closed, it's not flimsy at all. I already sent mine back.
Sorry but I thought the packing was CRAP! It represents $650 to me. They could spend another dollar and give you a proper box! It is not like there is no profit to be made here!!! I will be returning to the sotre for now on! The Geek told me they actually prefer it as they are cutting out the middle man.

They dont care. They’ll just adjust your trade to $0 if it gets damaged. Win for them.
I have traded every year and they have always given me full value. Never a question about it. Does not matter as I will be returning to the store for now on.

Was the return box sent automatically since you selected the option trade in when placing your iPhone order ?
I ask since, many have said once a mail in trade in is initiated then the Apple Store cannot process the trade . Of course there will be exceptions to this rule.
Yes, I indicated a trade in at order time and the quoted $650 for the trade in. I have done this the last 4 years and every year the box/packing gets worst!!! Next year they will just give you a shipping label to stick directly on the phone!

I remember last year’s boxes not being great but this is ridiculous. It’s a very flat box where you just peel the original label off and send it right on back. As you can see, it offers almost no protection for the device and there’s no room to add extra padding.

My box for Apple upgrade looked nothing like that. Was an outer brown cardboard with an inner white two piece box with a foam envelope for phone. 3 pieces of adhesive tape and FedEx label under the UPS label on the outer box.

Same exact thing I’ve received for last 3 or 4 years.

The trade-in-kit have to arrive first 😉
They can get lost on their tour. I had one that disappeared, so the service Apple use promised to send a new one for my iPad mini 5 that will go back to source now, before the iPad mini 7 comes.

Had no complaints on the quality on my recent return-kits for iMac 27, MBA etc before that.

If you order online and select the trade-in online when you order, can you still do the in-store trade-in and have the credit applied to the new purchase?

When I bought my M2 MBA two years ago, I never received my trade-in kit. When I went to turn in my trade-in at the Apple Store, all they could do was offer me a gift card. It was a huge hassle. Have they changed it since then?
Yes - you can still trade in to the store. I just did this and have done it in years past too. The only difference, I think if you follow thru with the trade in online and send back, you get a slight tax credit too, if you are in a State that charges tax on sales.

I feel bad wasting the box though. Not being very environmental friendly. 🤣

Like I said next year they will just give you a shipping label to stick directly on your phone!

I usually put more padding in the included box, then put that in a amazon box, and slap the label on it, so it doesn't get stolen.
Are you saying you take the pre-applied label off the flimsy box and put it in an Amazon box instead? If so, have you had any issues with doing that?

I'd like to send my iPhone in the retail box just for extra protection, but it certainly won't fit in the garbage box they sent me.

The prepaid label comes separate in the box (like a sticker) where you can peel and stick it to another box.

If you have an Apple Store near by, you are best to take to the store and get your trade in done there. I will never mail my Phone in using Apple‘s crap.

I traded in my iPad mini 5 and the box was exactly like that in the first post. Simple fold over cardboard with the padded stuffed paper inner liner. Seemed sturdy enough once folded and stuck. Posted on Wednesday, received this morning, full value confirmed.

Thanks for the data point.

I just checked it out and it doesn't even allow for a small phone-sized bubble mailer to be added. I have the factory screen protector/peel so I'm not toonworried about it getting scratched. Don't love the idea of having it clamped down on the cameras but hopefully will be ok.

I ditched the service Apple use here for trade-in, at least for now and with my iPad mini 5.
It took way too much time to deal with them, really bad compitence these days. They had written wrong name and adress on the package when I finally got it, which took over a month to start with.
The package itself was ok, same cardboard structere as earlier.

But the company itself totally lacked service when I contacted them. It felt like one sleepy person company😉
So for now I keep the 5 as a dedicated meditation/yoga-timer.

I might trade in it later here in the city over desk instead, when I want to buy another iPad or something else Apple. Unfortunately we have no Apple store in my city. But several authorized shops who sells Apple-stuff though. It will probably work better.
