I ordered a 15" MBA and Apple is offering me $500 trade in value on my 13" M1 base model MBA. Is this a decent deal for me? I could probably get a little more selling it on FaceBook Marketplace but that's kind of a pain.

Opinions?

Not a great deal, you will get more on eBay and others but if you don't want the hassle and are happy with $500 then your choice. Go take a look on eBay for your spec, set the search order to end soonest and see what people have already bid and committed to paying. That will give you an idea of how much you could get.

I haven't sold anything on ebay in years. Their fees have gotten ridiculous......

Amazon's selling the base model 2020 MBA M1 for $704.

Cheapest I'm seeing for a new model is $800.

Also, bear in mind Apple is not offering you $500, their trade-in partner is. Many had good experiences, but many don't. They get it and tell you it's only worth $xxx because of something you may say is wrong but they won't budge.

You may get another $150 - $200 on eBay or Facebook Marketplace but it is a hassle. $500 isn’t bad.

Sounds about right for a 2.5 year old computer. The price of M1 MBA varies and you could buy it as low as $740 in 2021-2022.

Agree with others, not a bad offer. You can buy that model for $720 open box at my local Microcenter store, or brand new for $800. BB has open box models as low as $700, and new for $800.

I say take the deal. M1 Airs are going for practically nothing these days. Selling to Apple is safe and quick and there are no pains of fraud or refunds. Take the money and go buy yourself a new Air 15". Do it!

That's a garbage deal. Sell it on eBay, Craiglist, OfferUp, Swappa, or something similar.

I just sold my friend's for them for 1000 bucks.

I’d also take the deal. eBay is just not worth the hassle. Should something go askew, even more time will be involved.

If you are located near an Apple Store, just take the offer and have them in person verify your condition.

As always, a quick wipe down to clean it is worthwhile before sending it off.

If you could get $200 more then that’s throwing away an upgrade in RAM/SSD, and I’d consider another Avenue, since you are already familiar with eBay.

Personally, I will not touch eBay at all, ever.

Congrats on the new 15 MBA! 🥳

The base model on Apple's website is 1000 dollars before tax. That's not a good deal. Macs have high resale value. That's one of the perks of owning a Mac.

Everybody can get it for $899 from Apple. You even get a $150 gift card now.

If they actually stick with that offer after receiving and inspecting your M1, take it. Much easier than dealing with potential idiots, crooks and scam artists on eBay or other places.

The other option which I guess you have discounted is to give it or sell it to a relative or friend.
