For sure, you can get a handle on prices via eBay, but I’d suggest looking at the prices of Sold Items rather than current bids, which could end up much higher. Not a great deal, you will get more on eBay and others but if you don't want the hassle and are happy with $500 then your choice. Go take a look on eBay for your spec, set the search order to end soonest and see what people have already bid and committed to paying. That will give you an idea of how much you could get.

Buy It Now, current or sold, is another way of getting a fix on realistic prices, not auction madness!
$500 sounds good, but Apple deals with a 3rd party company that has often, notoriously, found “defects” and lowered the quoted price. I'd agree with the advice above about going to an Apple Store instead, if you have one close, and doing this in person.
Does Best Buy have any similar service?
No, you need to send it in. Apple’s got automation tied to the serial number that you put in. They’re expecting it to come in from FedEx or whatever carrier.Question. I ordered my 15" MBA which is coming on Tuesday. Can I just take my 13" MBA to an Apple store for trade in? Apple is sending me a box for the trade in but now people in this thread have me spooked about possibly getting screwed by sending it in.
I think best buy does, but its one of those where its better to just to the store to find the value they give you.For sure, you can get a handle on prices via eBay, but I’d suggest looking at the prices of Sold Items rather than current bids, which could end up much higher.

Yes, but call ahead first and explain the situation. Can I just take my 13" MBA to an Apple store for trade in?
I think it doesn’t work that way - only shipping is an option.Yes, but call ahead first and explain the situation.
Trade-ins are optional, not bound to a new purchase and can be cancelled. You can simply throw away the trade-in box that Fedex/UPS delivers and not send anything back, and go to a store and do it in person. There is no requirement to transfer the value to gift cards either, I used that trade-in a year ago and they sent the funds to my credit card.I think it doesn’t work that way - only shipping is an option.
You can definitely do better. I was going to trade my 2022 MBA 13" for the 15" that I bought but they were only offering $825. I am getting $1,190 from a A+ accredited BBB third party. I would shop around IMO.I ordered a 15" MBA and Apple is offering me $500 trade in value on my 13" M1 base model MBA. Is this a decent deal for me? I could probably get a little more selling it on FaceBook Marketplace but that's kind of a pain.
Opinions?
12.5% now isn't it?I haven't sold anything on ebay in years. Their fees have gotten ridiculous......
Trade in program is a scam. Ive heard of many people getting much less when the company that Apple uses actually gets its hands on it.
Do you have a Mac user group in your area? I sold my iMac through my local Mac user group after Apple tried to scam me on my iMac trade-in.
I would strongly advise not doing a trade-in with Apple. Just do a Google search for "Apple trade in problems" to see why.

Wow interesting. Got open-box from Bestbuy (so technically bought new in the eyes of Apple?) M1 Air 8 RAM/512GB and was also offered $565.For my refurb M1 8 core 16gb/512gb they are offering $565
Don't also forget that by trading in with apple towards new laptop, you get $500+your local tax%.I'm going to see if I can sell my M1 MBA through FaceBook Marketplace. I'll be happy if I can get $600. That'll be $100 more than Apple's quote.
Apple just knows that their upgrade pricing is a rip-offInteresting that they do not add more value for 16GB of Ram?
Is this really true?Trade-ins are optional, not bound to a new purchase and can be cancelled. So I did end up combining the trade-in with a new device purchase and the money ended up on the credit card but I specifically asked Apple and was told that I can do the trade-in without a new purchase and can choose between gift card and credit card. I tried to verify this now but it actually does say that trade-ins without a purchase are limited to gift cards. So I assume either I remember it wrong or I was misinformed, unless it's an option that only works in the store and isn't advertised. Is this really true?
don't flame me but how come we don't have a classifieds section to sell these machines to each other? FOMO and upgrade fever would lend to some killer deals amongst ourselves!
