i sold my pre unibody 2008 for 900 a few months ago on ebay. apple trade in not worth it.

I traded my 2.4 Santa Rosa MPB to PowerMax in June of 2010 for $900.00 credit. Used the credit for 27" Apple Cinema Display. I couldn't be more happy with the transaction.

You guys are funny. If you want full value for your products then sell it on CL, eBay or Amazon. Simple as that. For the majority of the people that aren't savvy or do not want to deal with the BS then there's the trade-in programs which simplify everything for a cost. Of course you're not going to get top dollar! They are businesses. It's a given you're only going to get a portion of the value. They will obviously account for the business costs and profit into it. To think otherwise is just stupid. Since when do you get BlueBook Value when you trade in your car at the dealership?!

I've dealt with a few of these trade-in programs before. True, I could have made more selling it myself (which I prefer to do.) But did it save hassle, yes. Was the lower trade value make up for less hassle? Not for me but maybe for others. They send you a box with a prepaid label. You send it in, they give you a value. You either accept or decline. If you decline then they send it back to you free of charge. YOU have the choice. I don't see a scam there at all.

Wow what a rip-off!!

Apple MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz 15" (Unibody) (T9550) (MC026LL/A)

Estimate provided by PowerON:
$870.21

(these are going for 1300+ on Ebay)

Apple sure knows how to make money you have to give them that. By providing the cash in the form of an apple gift card they are guaranteeing that you are going to spend that money on them. It's because of things like this that the have all the excess money.... Gotta love them if you are a stock holder.

Apple does not own PowerON, they are separate companies...they have a partnership where they provide apple gift cards which means apple probably gives a higher amount on a gift card than PowerON would give you in cash value. This program by no means is making apple richer...

I have some experience with them, they will most likley change the quote when they get it. If you refuse the quote and ask to have it shipped back you may get the origional value.

They tried to change my quote to 0.00 with "free recycling" I said no thanks, please ship it back (at their expense). They changed their mind and went ahead and honord the quote.

It worked out for me so its worth a shot but be prepaired to ask for the unit to be shipped back. The apple discussion site has a lot of complaints from people being offerd 500+ then having the quote changed to >100

so... its worth taking a shot, wont cost you anything if you dont like the quote. They had a good BBB rating so to call it a scam is reaching.

Here is a link to the Apple discussion of people sharing their experience and poweron joined the discussion to rebuf.

That's straight up insulting.

Not really....$600 is about right. PowerOn has to turn around sell it and make a profit that makes the whole process worth their time. Seeing as how the baseline 13" MBP can be had for $999 brand new that doesn't leave too much room for profit on a used machine.

PowerOn, for a lack of a better term, is a computer pawn shop.
