If Apple hired me, moved me and my family cross country, we bought a house, and then within 4 weeks of work I crapped the bed performance wise and got fired, how would that be APPLE'S fault?

Just because they saw potential in me doesn't necessarily mean I have that potential.

This was a VERY expensive mistake for Apple, and definitely not "on them".

Producing sapphire at high volumes is undoubtedly a difficult and unprecedented task, and one that requires both time and money and a little luck.

A better analogy would be Apple giving you a 5 year deadline to cure cancer. Snap your fingers and it's done? No. R&D and difficult things take time and don't always fit a tight schedule. If Apple was doing things for the long haul and trying to invest in US jobs, they should (and hopefully did) work with their partners here to make sure that a reasonable schedule slip doesn't incinerate their partners in the crossfire.

Dude, again, if Apple was really attempting to help GT, we wouldn't be hearing of this at all.

More likely Apple tried to squeeze GT on a technicality and GT called their bluff by filing for protection. Apple has a long track record of threatening litigation to get what it wants, particularly with smaller entities.

Neither of us knows what is in the agreements, but the fact that Apple is acting all surprised, after failing to make a payment, is indicative of a p!ssing match and a move by GT that Apple did not expect.

What we *know* about this situation is:
1) GT got a loan from Apple, with conditions on some or all of the loan disbursements.
2) GT failed to fulfill one of those conditions, specifically one associated with the final disbursement.
3) GT filed for bankruptcy.

Apple didn't 'fail to make a payment', GT failed to reach a milestone which would have *triggered* said payment. You're making assumptions about motive and behavior which simply aren't supported by the available evidence.

The *very* suspicious thing is that GT doesn't want to tell the court their plan for getting *out* of bankruptcy.

Hah...haha... not really

Funny how I waited to upgrade from my 7 year old phone to the iPhone 6 because I thought it was going to use "Sapphire" glass. So much for that........
