When playing back a file from iTunes, does the ATV2 playback the 1080p or 720p version (assuming that the SD, 720p and 1080p files have all been added to iTunes)?

Just to clarify, I have an ATV2 and ordered an ATV3. If I have a 1080p video in my iTunes library, will the ATV2 play it back and down convert to 720p?

I've had 1080p content stutter on my ATV2. Your mileage my vary.

Since the last update to the AppleTV2 it can now play back some very high 1080p encodes.

While I don't dispute the fact that ATV2 will playback 1080p files, it might not play back all of them. I'm sure it can handle Baseline and Main profile H.264 encodes but doubtful of High Profile 4.0.
