I recently bought an ATV4 for my bedroom and now I'm wanting to set up my old ATV2 in my living room.

The issue is that before I unplugged my ATV2 from the bedroom set up I restored it to factory settings. Meaning it wiped out my wifi and Apple ID.

So, I tried setting it up as new in my living room and because my ATV2 remote doesn't work (I even bought a new battery for it but it's unresponsive - is this common?), I can't start the set-up process. I'd been using my iPhone as a remote this whole time but since the ATV is no longer associated with my wifi or my Apple ID, I can't do anything to control it with my phone.

I know that I can use a bluetooth keyboard but I don't have one at the moment; just my MPB and that won't connect to it for some reason. And if I were to buy a replacement remote, would it even work on the ATV2? Wouldn't I need to pair it before it can actually control it? I can't access the ATV's settings menu until I actually set it up.

I did find a thread online where someone suggests plugging the ATV to the modem via ethernet but nothing happened when I tried that. I assumed it would show up in my TV remote app but only my ATV4 is showing up. Am I doing something wrong?

If anyone can offer some help I would be very appreciative! Thanks!

UPDATE: I was able to use my MBP as a bluetooth keyboard! Thanks to the info in this thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/no-remote-for-apple-tv-2.1994244/
