I did not use my Apple TV for a period of time (lost the remote) Now my Apple TV seems to be in a permanent sleep mode. I have tried changing the battery in the remote, unplugging the Apple TV, plugging in the Apple TV to the computer via micro usb. Itunes does not recognize the device. I have also tried holding down the menu button and the menu button + the down button--per previous tips. I can't go to the Genius Bar due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Any other ideas?

Bummer. The highly technical term that describes what has happened to your Apple TV 2 is “bricked.” As in, it has been magically transformed from a useful video streamer into a paper weight or brick. Unfortunate but not surprising. After all this unit is old enough to vote. Time to upgrade.

Not quite old enough to vote. I have several functioning Apple products that still work that are even older!

The ATV2 was discontinued on March 7, 2012. That makes all of them older than 18. My point is you’ve gotten your money’s worth out of it. Apple doesn’t support it any more. If you could get it to a Genius Bar they would tell you what I’m telling you: Time for a new one.

Yes, I too have Apple products much older that still function. They work great, until they don’t.

For an Apple TV 2 to be 18 years old it means it would have had to have been manufactured in 2002 (unless I've really lost track of time due to sheltering in place)
