Apple TV 3 and 720p

Would there be any benefit to using the new Apple TV with a 720p television?
If not, would you recommend just getting refurb 2nd generation instead?

The additional internal oomph of the "3" is all about 1080p. If you can't display that, and have no plans to be able to in the near future, then a refurb "2" would be the way to go assuming the discount is appropriate. If the pricing is close to the "3", might as well get the "3".

You might be able to get higher bit rates on the Apple TV 3. So 720p HD movies could look even better.

better processor, as mentioned above, means that navigation etc,. will be snappier. I have an original, and I know that's become a drag lately...
