Hello.

I’m now a (somewhat) happy owner of the new Apple TV 4 (I wish it featured support for the bluetooth keyboard I used to use with its predecessor, and/or the Remote app, but probably support for those will arrive later).

Anyways: I now have an unused Apple TV 3.

Ages ago I jailbroke the Apple TV 2 and for a while used it as a little headless server roughly equivalent to an early RasperryPi. I was wondering whether there are any guides to jailbreaking the Apple TV 3 (with latest firmware) and tearing off as much of the “Apple Stuff” (including the Apple GUI and nonstandard filesystem layout) and basically repurposing it as a general-computing platform with a low-footprint windowing system.

Ideally I’d be able to plug it into a monitor with HDMI and connect a keyboard and mouse over Bluetooth and use it as a pretty basic small little workstation with a POSIX-type OS.

Thanks if anyone replies.

Nobody's jail broken the ATV3. Which is why ATV2s are worth more.

Sell it while the selling's 'good' or keep it for nostalgia's sake.
