Apple TV 3 HDMI

I am in the UK and purchased a new Apple TV two days ago.
I am finding a normal HDMI cable does not fit in the unit. Although friends advise theirs have a normal HDMI connection.
Have Apple recently changed this to a HDMI mini cable? (HDMI A - HDMI C)

it should just be a standard hdmi cable.

It's a standard HDMI connector, perhaps you're looking at the USB connector.

I suspect you're trying the wrong plug, it's standard HDMI.
