New unit just arrived today, and the first thing I checked is how much better s the home share streaming over the previous Apple TV 4K (2021).

First, it is much faster, loading and streaming HDR10 or HDR10+ files vis WiFi-6, with my files on a NAS and controlled by a Mac Pro 2019.
HDR files as large as 50GB can now be streamed using the Apple TV 4K 2022 without any issues. The 2021 Apple TV 4K cannot stream files this larger than 25GB without pauses.

A quick check shows all the streaming services are rock solid, and the HDR picture on my Sony 83" 2021 4K TV seems to be slightly smoother than the previously Apple TV 4K.

Youtube 4K seems good.

Will upgrade to TVOS 16.1 later.
So far a better Apple TV 4K over the last models.

BTW. lighting remote works with 2022 Apple TV 4K as well.

Thanks for the post. As someone who uses Plex and has a lot of large files, I wonder if getting the new model would make any real difference for me. I don't have Wifi 6 just 1GB fiber. I am not using a NAS just WD easystore drives on a Mac mini.

That should be fine. Some of my files >50GB <100GB files are on slower SSD's 400MBS. My Synology NAS has Ironwolf that are only 200MBS. Everything streaming fine so far.

Try it out, Amazon has free returns.

I wil give the new model a shot. I believe I have the second gen 4K tv. I am going to see what Black Friday offers and maybe I can get better than a $4 discount. If not, I will make the purchase afterwards. I currently have about 36 TB of streaming on my Plex.

I was using a first gen Apple 4k to stream my full 4k rips using infuse pro with files stored on a qnap NAS over 5Ghz wifi with no issues.

I used infuse pro to have lossless 5.1 audio from each rip's TrueHD or DTS-HD MA track.

Not sure what the problem is with your set up, but I am able to steam 40GB files using Plex on the 2017 ATV4K1 over wired and wireless.

I am not using a NAS though, but an old Mac Pro for my media server.

Are you getting HDR this way, wirelessly? Same looking HDR as with Disney+?

I was getting HDR with no problem from my mkv rips over WiFi. I don't use my 2017 ATV with ethernet unless I'm using a DNS service. Unfortunately, the ATV will does not support Dolby Vision profile 7, only profile 5.
