The new USB-C charging remote leaves much to be desired. There is no way to see if remote is actually charging (no indicator light or LED. Only through the software can you see the charge level.

When setting up new Apple TV 4K yesterday my remote was not even recognized!

This step is what worked for me:

f your remote still isn't working as expected, try restarting your remote.

  1. Press and hold the TV/Control Center button

    and the Volume Down button

at the same time. Hold the buttons down for about 5 seconds, or until the status light on your Apple TV turns off and on again.
  2. Release the buttons. Then wait 5 to 10 seconds for a Connection Lost notification to appear on your TV screen.
  3. Wait while your remote restarts. When the Connected notification appears, you can use your remote.

I found this link which helped.

Thats nothing new though, it’s been the same with the Siri Remote since 2015.

Very true - I've owned all versions since inception.

It just seems like a very dumb way to manufacture a remote - and simple to make it more functional.

You only have to charge the remote once or twice a year. I don't see the need to add a led light in the device for such little benefit. Plus, the less holes on the case the less chance of issues.

Thing is it’s not like the remote will just die without warning, you’ll get an on screen prompt when the remaining charge level reaches 10%.

I guess through the years I haven't ever let a remote drop that low on a charge.
