It's not a question of what plex supports but rather what the atv supports. Plex supports whatever the native player is on the device it's on. And if not, it transcodes. You wouldn't know the difference though.

Perhaps. It depends on screen size and viewing distance. And the quality of the encode. Transcode settings, etc. I set transcode settings in PMS to "make my CPU hurt". And bandwidth set to original, maxed any related settings I could find.
On my LG OLED most newer 1080p rips look like 4k. My 4k content, transcoded looks fine as well.
The Plex company has released two updates for its tvOS app following the launch of Apple TV 4K. The first update (version 1.18) was pushed out in late October and the second update (version 1.19) was pushed out this week.
The first update features support for 4K video playback on Apple TV 4K. In addition, it adds support for “direct playback of FLAC music” on tvOS 11, meaning both versions of the Apple TV box. The second update adds support for “direct play support for HEVC video codec” on tvOS 11 (both Apple TVs). That is possible because Apple has enabled native support for the formats with the release of tvOS 11.
I see a lot of people saying the same thing, but I'm confused I tried Infuse and its nothing like Plex. It plays video sure, but it's not a library manager. It just lets you browse folders and play them. Am I missing something?
