With the new Gen 2 Apple TV 4k. Does anyone think there will be any difference in the 32GB vs 64GB models?
given it’s only a modest price difference I’m not sure the 32GB would be worth consideration. But it did get me thinking.

could there be any other undiscussed difference between Gen 1/2 and/or 32GB/64GB models?
* RAM
* performance (perhaps faster storage)
* etc.

of course we know things like Bluetooth 5, WiFi 6, A12, HDMI 2.1 (4k60fps) are all updates from Gen 1 to Gen 2 but are there additional updates and are there any differences besides 2x storage between then 32GB/64GB versions?

Gen 2 as you call it has 1GB extra RAM (4 instead of 3) compared to the old one (no matter the storage capacity you take).

Storage speed is probably gonna be the same but even if it isn't you wouldn't notice faster storage since the old ones already using NAND Flash. Other than the things you mentioned the big upgrade is the A12 instead of A10x processor and the new remote.

I have a 64GB and the couple of dozen apps on it don’t total even 1GB, so no need for the extra. I don’t have any games on it as it’s mostly streaming apps such as Netflix, MLB, Plex, You Tube, Apple TV, VLC etc.

Apple know damn well there’s not point to a 64GB ATV. If there were then the price difference wouldn’t be be so modest. Reason why it is , is to pressure the majority into the upsell. Suddenly the ‘it’s only £20’ adds up to a tidy profit for them.
For me it’s a choice between whether you want to fall for it or not. Either way your ATV experience will be exactly the same.

I'm going to get the 32GB model. That's what I have in my current AppleTV and I don't use anything close to that. I think the only people who might benefit from 64GB are those who install a lot of games.

It would be nice to be able to store movies and TV shows on the device. Sure 64G wouldn't go far, but it would allow you to download and then play without fear of streaming difficulties. (buffering...)

Yes, I do that with my PC and Mac (download and then home share), but my PC's iTunes has problems, failing to show up on the Apple TV about half the time, and it does something to stop the monitor from being turned off on the PC, even if you quit iTunes. And my Mac also has problems, forcing me to reauthorize it every time I want to use home sharing with it and the new TV App is a POOR substitute for iTunes, which wasn't that great to begin with.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Apple TV, it's the best streaming player by far, but it could be better, especially on the back end...

Is there a single app on TVOS that allows you to download media for offline viewing?

I’m wondering if I should get the 32GB or 64GB. I currently have the Apple TV HD with 32GB. I’ve never come close to filling it.

wish they would let us download content and have it cached locally. I hate using bandwidth to see the same kids cartoon over and over.
