This is my first Apple TV, however I was reading for about a year how Yosemite would rename Apple TV and other network computers with crazy numbers on the end.

As far as I read, Apple dumped discoveryd part-way through Yosemite and in iOS 9. Why then, is my new Apple TV 4 showing up on my El Capitan and iOS 9 devices with increasingly higher numbers tacked on the end? For reference, my Apple TV is connected by Ethernet to an AirPort Extreme.

Does anyone know what's happening here?

I have this too with all iOS 9, el capitans, and two airports. Well and two apple tvs, one the latest.

It'd be incredibly funny if tvOS is still using discoveryd. Just adds fuel to the fire that this thing has been sitting the pipeline for a while now.
